A 43-year-old engineer was voluntarily slaughtered and eaten by Armin Meiwes following an appointment via the Internet. At Brandes' request, Meiwes first severed Brandes' penis, and they unsuccessfully tried to eat it. Meiwes taped the entire amputation, killing, conserving, and eating Brandes' meat. Meiwes was eventually arrested, tried, and sentenced to life in prison

A man in his mid-50s was visiting his mother's house in Vernon, British Columbia, to attend his father's funeral. While cleaning the kitchen, he tripped over the open dishwasher door and was fatally impaled on knives sticking up out of the cutlery tray

A 6-year-old died during an MRI scan after an oxygen tank was magnetically pulled into the machine and fractured his skull

A 79-year-old retired engineer from Pont-de-Loup, Belgium, installed 20 booby traps in his house with the reported intention of killing his family, who he had become estranged from after being caught cheating on his wife, but was killed by a shotgun pellet from one of the traps after accidentally activating it. He was presumed to have died by suicide until another one of the traps was inadvertently activated by the police

A 45-year-old Taiwanese woman bathed in 40.5% ethanol in an attempt to protect herself from SARS during the 2002–2004 SARS outbreak. She lay down in the fluid at 11 p.m. and was found dead at 11 a.m. by her family the next day

The Bennington Triangle Disappearances

"Bennington Triangle" is a phrase coined by American author Joseph A. Citro to denote an area of southwestern Vermont within which a number of people went missing between 1945 and 1950. The region's dense forests and rugged terrain seem to swallow people whole, leaving behind no clues, no bodies, and no logical explanations.

The legend of the Bennington Triangle is built around five specific cases that have baffled investigators and intrigued paranormal enthusiasts for decades.

1. Midshipman James Tetford (December 1, 1949) The most bizarre disappearance involves James Tetford, a U.S. Navy midshipman. Tetford was on a bus traveling to Bennington, the town where he lived at a soldiers' home. Witnesses on the bus confirmed he was on board and his belongings were in the luggage rack. The bus was relatively crowded. Yet, when the bus arrived at its destination, Tetford was gone. His luggage remained, and no one on the bus could recall seeing him leave. It was as if he simply vanished into thin air between stops.

2. Paula Jean Welden (December 1, 1946) Exactly three years prior to Tetford's disappearance, college sophomore Paula Jean Welden vanished while hiking on the Long Trail near Glastenbury Mountain. She was seen by several people heading up the trail late in the afternoon, but she never returned. A massive search ensued, involving the FBI and local authorities, but not a single trace of her was ever found.

3. Bennington's Other Victims The cluster includes three other cases:

Middie Rivers (November 12, 1945): A 74-year-old experienced hunter who disappeared while hunting near the area. Only one single spent rifle casing was found.

Paul Jephson (October 12, 1950): An 8-year-old boy who disappeared from the back seat of his family’s truck near the northern edge of the Triangle.

Alexandria "Ali" Joy Lowitzer, born on February 3, 1994, was last seen on April 26, 2010, in Spring, Texas. At the time of her disappearance, she was 16 years old, stood 5'2" tall, and weighed approximately 145 pounds. Ali is a Caucasian female with blue eyes and brown hair that was dyed dark red when she went missing. She has pierced ears and nose, pink braces on her teeth, and a faint chickenpox scar between her eyes. On the day she disappeared, Ali was wearing a white t-shirt or spaghetti-strap top, a gray hooded zip-up sweatshirt, black and white checkered skinny jeans, and black sneakers. She was carrying a blue LG/AT&T slide cellular phone and a multicolored checkered backpack with a dark-colored strap.

Ali was last seen after getting off her school bus near her home at 3:00 p.m. She called her mother to inform her that she planned to walk to her workplace, the Burger Barn on Treaschwig Road, to pick up her paycheck. Although the restaurant was only about a quarter-mile from her home, Ali had never walked there before. She mentioned she didn't have her house key, but her mother told her the house was unlocked. Ali never arrived at the Burger Barn and has not been heard from since.

Initially, Ali's case was classified as a runaway. However, she left behind personal items that a runaway would typically take, such as her makeup, purse, phone charger, clothes, and money. Her cellular phone, which she used frequently, has not been active since her disappearance. Entries in her journal suggested she had thoughts of running away, but her family believes these writings were not recent.

Ali was an artistic and well-behaved teenager involved in softball, choir, and the Girl Scouts. She preferred socializing at home, often inviting friends over. Several weeks after her disappearance, homicide detectives began investigating her case, not necessarily indicating foul play but due to the length of time she had been missing without leads. Her case remains unsolved.
