Le coing est un beau fruit jaune qui peut peser jusqu'à 250g. Originaire de Caucase et du nord de l'Iran, on retrouve 3 variétés en France. La plus grande production se fait au Portugal, en Espagne et en Roumanie.
Cru, il a une chaire granuleuse et astrigente à cause des tanins qu’il contient. En revanche, cuit - il apaise les brûlures d'estomac et il est très doué à baisser la glycémie et le cholestérol.
Côté beauté, il joue un rôle important dans la cicatrisation des plaies cutanées.
