in this video: a covert modification to the game’s logic, that spreads from game to game through Link Cable interactions.
Another example of a Pokémon Red payload that breaks out of its console sandbox.
When I was a child, I used to dream about the courtyard of Peach’s castle in Super Mario 64. In the game, you are kept from leaving Peach’s property by steep, slippery hills and invisible walls. Bu…

so you know how, after undertale, fanworks where the JRPG protag remembers previous runs has gotten popular again?
I’m thinking about that for a Pokémon game, except
it’s a speedrunner
the team remembers too
the team is in on the goal
so you get like, mewtwo smouldering about how crystal just screwed up the menuing, cyndaquil and bulbasaur commiserating about getting a dozen reincarnations in a row with unusable IVs, everyone sitting in the waiting room between runs to plan their next move and encourage each other.
reset AUs are too lonely sometimes. let’s cozy things up a bit.
Thanks for the post on glitches, liminal spaces, and magic. I'm working on a (fictional) magical school based on speedrunning for the game Unknown Armies, called Ludophagy, and it helped me compose my thoughts about it.
okay that’s a really good name for it first off
second off: please link it to me once you’re done
@adeptarcanist replied to your post: thinking about pokemon glitch sorcery…
This stuff is all super cool! What’s your take on Glitch City in this interpretation/AU/thing?
As in most cases, I’d start with what’s “actually” happening, game-logic wise, when you visit a Glitch City. Turns out, it’s not “out-of-bounds” or a place off the edge of the map, but rather a real location which just loaded incorrectly because you entered it from the wrong angle.
So a Codex Pacifica take on it would be, like, it’s a botched warp, leaving you slightly askew from reality and thus the landscape you see and interact with is different from the landscape others around you see and interact with. And if you’re not careful wandering around, you can fall out of bounds and into a bona fide nonexistent map, but you can also get back to a normal perspective just by calling out your Pokémon and Flying/Teleporting away.
