Game Night at Simon & Johnny’s

Dinner isn’t always formal, sometimes it’s just takeaway hastily picked up on the way back from PT, or if Simon finds just the right cuts at the market they’ll cook up some steaks, without fail they all gather on Wednesday nights and share a meal. After sharing a mess for years it’s a hard habit to break.

The first time wasn’t planned exactly but Simon and Johnny didn’t have much when they were first discharged and moving in together. Kate’s Wife volunteered the use of her pickup truck and Price had a bottle of Nice Bourbon he needed to drop off. Gaz was already at the house and hey, they had to eat.

Afterwards when everyone was full and content, Price fishes a well-worn deck of cards out his pocket and they play Poker.

Game Night becomes a routine as well, never the same game 2 weeks in a row. The hall closet fills with various board games acquired from donation bins an garage sales, some with missing pieces but all worth atleast a try out. There are some rotating favorites.

Scrabble is off the table. Johnny’s answers are incomprehensible to everyone but Simon (and he still pretends to not understand Scots even after all this time)

Phase 10 seems like good game until Gaz wins too many damn times (he had secretly downloaded the iPhone version and become an absolute assassin at it)

Kate’s favorite is Cluedo, (Clue, she insists) she always plays Mrs Peacock, and ALWAYS wins. Simon picks Ms Scarlett and Johnny laughs until he realizes it gives him an edge, and that Kate has had an edge this whole time, and afterwards always picks Mrs White (lasses must have a general advantage) Price plays Colonel Mustard, Gaz plays Professor Plum and Kate’s Wife rotates characters to mindfuck the rest.

No one likes Monopoly, because fuck Monopoly.
