the chow kit - an ormond hotel, kuala lumpur.
was here to celebrate cny with my besties, we wanted to try something different and so happen to came across this newly opened hotel which has rather unique cny menu and ala carte menu, and the hotel style is really aesthetic.
it’s not a big hotel, so it feel cozy, totally in love with the rustic style and simple design, the restaurant is quite open, which also has a bar that looks very pretty and comfortable. there weren’t much guests around during our visit, which means we get the whole place to ourselves.
we ordered two of the cny menu course with yee sang, so that we can try everything available, which includes dim sum appetizer, soup, duck breast and fried fish for mains and dessert. we also added the chow kit nachos, tomato laksa soup, wagyu char siew bun, the chow kit fish and chips, and milk tea sponge cake from the ala carte menu. for cocktails, we ordered tai tai tipple, the chow kit and fourth concubine.
the yee sang they served was really good, i like how crispy fruits are used and the sauce is so appetizing, it feels refreshing to eat and we finished the dish so quickly because the overall texture and flavor is quite addictive. the cny course meal was alright overall. appetizers were very nicely presented, but the taste was average, we enjoyed the mains though, both the fish and duck were yummy, the taste is unique yet very enjoyable. dessert was pretty average as well.
for the ala carte dishes.. nachos is a must-order, the chips are super nice and very addictive, not your average store bought nachos at all. soup and char siew bun was alright, but nothing to shout about. the fish and chips, however, is amazing, another dish that we fell in love with. the fish texture is so good and the flavor is just fresh and it goes well with the condiments, it’s really something to try if you are visiting. the milk tea sponge cake was alright, but not something we like.
cocktails were fine, they are not very strong, so it’s enjoyable, no funny tastes either, but it’s not sweet so you can still taste the alcohol when drinking, the presentation was beautiful.
we had a great time enjoying our meal and catching up with each other definitely, and we took a lot of photos together since the place was beautiful, even the washroom is so pretty, it’s totally my style.. would definitely love to have a staycation here someday, just to enjoy the lovely design and visit the restaurant for the food again.
