He was tired. He was slowing. He was weak. He just wanted quiet. But it didnt matter where in the town he went, people would scream and others would come running. He should have known. Small country towns like this were always the worst, people were always so much more frightened. But, still, he kept managing to convince himself that getting away from the city for a while would do him good.Â
Out here, where town populations were so low, mutants were a far away problem that the big city folk had to deal with. It wasnât something anyone expected to find in their quiet little farming town. So âmutantâ wasnât the first thing that came to their minds when they saw him.Â
He made for the forest, tail all but dragging behind him. How did they have the energy to keep going like this? Day after day. He had been so determined to stay for a while, to try to make them see reason. Had. He should go home. Maybe he will, once he can catch a break and get his energy back. But, for now, what he wants more than anything is to sleep. To sleep and to stop running.
They were back again. The yelling started again. He started running again.Â
