Ive talked about what ive got going on when i first shift here so much but im actually so excited about it rn so ill just be yapping for a bit. So its mid August when i get their and ive just moved down the London since im taking this new job as a lecturer at Penbridge (this is my first proper teaching job where im staying at one place for the full year and not moving about so im kinda excited/ scared because its a bigger commitment than any other jobs ive done technically + what if all the art department people r pretentious snobs and i have to put up w/ that all the time).
Anyway, as part of my other 'job' being an artist theirs always loads of galleries and events to attend (basically just free champagne, wearing fancy outfits, finger-sized pieces of food that you're supposed to last the whole night off of and having to listen to how 'deep and meaningful' lots of paintings are), but there's this big event in Toronto that I've been invited on the 19th of August. Soooo when I shift itlle be a week before I fly out, cos I plan on doing some London exploration + I've still gotta unpack and decorate the flat. (I'm so excited to be living alone, especially in the space where I live, i cant wait to just watch TV on the sofa even though that's lowkey boring). Clara and I decided to fly out on the night of the 17th so that we can sleep on the plane and hopefully not be to jet lagged for the event. I can't lie an 8 hour flight kind of sounds like hell but if i sleep through most of it then its fine + if i dont ill be annoying Clara the whole way. Once we're actually there and have shoved our stuff in the fancy hotel that Clara managed to book for a full week at like 50% of the price ( I LOVE MY BOSS <333), we're probabaly just going to chill and mayber walk around the area that the hotels in but i reckon we'll be kinda tired from the travelling.
On to the day of the event, it starts at 5, so we have to dedicate around 2 hours before that in order to get dressed (I mean, come on, it's an art event, so we've gotta look fabulous, there won't be any basic black suits like all the other men for me, no ma'am) . Usually, Clara sets up a meeting the day or morning before at a tailors and we just rent our outfits out since its alot easier when were travelling + there's more options, BUTTT this time I'm wearing my favourite suit (its so fire trust) and Clara's wearing her most gorgeous green (green) dress. Then we're pulling up the the event in whatever fancy car Clara's got us, arriving in style as always.
After the event, we usually do a debrief in my hotel room if 1. we're not to tired and 2. we're not too sozzled about the any business connection we made/oppurtunities offered, which usually just descends into us gossiping about who was annoying and who was best/worst dressed. Then off to bed. Now for the fun stuff.
So i dont know exactly what we've got planned the next day but we usually try to go to a nice restaurant, so on the saturday we'll probably do that then on Sunday we're going to Niagra falls becasue ive never been and wanna see it (and if that purely because of Percy Jackson then that's my buisness). Then the next day (Monday) we're just gonna be walking around, see CN tower, idk probably drink overpriced coffe and do loads of touristy stuff. Tuesday we're going to see an Ice Hockey game (as a feild hockey player i dont approve and am very scared of the blades but). AND FINALLY THE BIG EVENT WEDNESDAY THE 24TH OF AUGUST, and it's time to go see Blue Rodeo LIVE. (i cant fucking wait aghhhhhhhhhhhhh). Me and Clara need to plan what outfits we're gonna wear so we can pack them. We also need to spend the week hyping ourselves up by exclusively listening to Blue Rodeo talking about Blue Rodeo and thinking about Blue Rodeo
It's actually gonna be amazing its an outdoor concert (the weathers gonna be perfect conditions), extended set (so at least 1/4 of my favourite songs can be played) and top form by the band. I'm gonna be getting so impatient cos ill be waiting 1 WEEK AND 5 DAYS for the concert (the wait will only make it better though so..)
Then we're flying back later the next day :(
Hope you enjoyed/understood whatever this was, the basic jist is: oh my fuck i cant wait and this is only the first two weeks (although to be fair there's a 'boring' month after this before i start work in late September)
