Wounded Heart: The Messenger
Sunrise dawned upon the hillock. It had been several months since the initial invasion had been thwarted by one man. His hand clenched tightly to a blade that seemed to shimmer so brightly. Beyond the hillock, debris, corpses, and other scars of battle littered the fields. The man wasn't unhurt however, down his arm were blood soaked bandages and his body still was covered in scars both new and old reopened. He nearly looked like a statue. If one were to look upon him one could could feel the loneliness he was enduring.
Why was he standing guard alone? Who did he give this promise to? He still stood there simply smiling. He alone would know the true reason he was here. He awaited the enemy to come so he may honor his vow. Until he was relieved by the one he swore to he would not rest. The sun was now slowly setting on yet another day. The man known as Deathsbane, still stood guard over the kingdom. The night was windy and chilled. The birds had retired even the stars seemed to be resting in the nights sky. Yet the warrior remained vigilant. He had already lost so much in his life, he had failed to protect those he held closest so many times. In his mind he refused to repeat that mistake. Nothing happened the next morning, however that tranquil silence was broken when the sound of horses approaching the hillock. The man had spotted the source of the sound. It was thee men, two seemed to be escorts for the third who seemed to be wearing regal robes. The leader? No, why would the invading leader come dressed in robes.Â
They neared the hillock before being cut off by several weapons that rained down infront of them. "That's far enough." The man called from the tree. "We are not here to do battle today Deathsbane." The man glared at the rider. "I can see that. Why are you here then?" The man stepped off with his bodyguards and bowed. "I am a messenger from our divine leader, Envinco. We have come to discuss terms to end the conflict between our army and you."Â
The man came down from the hill and approached the trio. "You can negotiate from here just fine. Now what do you want?" His tone cold and stern as his eyes stabbed into the messenger. He however still seemed confident as he approached the swordsman. "Well as you see our numbers are near limitless Master Pheonix. What I propose is a compromise." Kyo raised a cautious eyebrow. "Fine, what are the terms?" He asked after thinking it through a few times in his head. "Seeing as even the Round Table has little to no chance of defeating us while protecting its people without their King, why not surrender yourselves to us." The messenger put simply. "If you surrender to us and become another arm of our army, bowing to our lord Envinco, then I can guarantee the safety of you and the safety of this land." It was then a slow chuckle began from Kyo.
"Am I supposed to give in to these ridiculous demands? Last I checked I left the knights to come and fight you and your so called "invincible armies"Â and yet you say that we need mercy from you and your so called Divine Leader?" Kyo continue to chuckle at these demands, which annoyed the Messenger greatly. "What is so funny about your inevitable annihilation?!" He called to the swordsman angrily. "You have fought for more than six months by yourself against legions of our armies, you think we do not know you are exhausted? It is only a matter of time before we overwhelm your position. Your homes will be burned your children enslaved along with your women and when your King returns we shall show her how foolish it was to deny us our right, before we break her! All because-" The messenger was cut off by a blade in his gut. The man wore a serious look upon his face. "Yeah you see that's not going to happen. You think yourselves invincible and your leader infallible. That was your first mistake." The messenger who was struggling to breathe from the sudden strike. the bodyguards seemed stunned by the blinding speed of which it happened. "Y-You will fall you insane fool."Â
"And that's the other thing, I might fall but your second mistake was challenging a crazy bastard like me. And before I fall, I'll show your armies just how impervious this Envinco is. Give him my regards when you meet him again." Kyo then retracted the blade and, within a single fluid motion, decapitated the messenger. Soon the veteran charged at the swordsman in an attempt to avenge the messenger. However he too was cut down effortlessly. The other guard seemed terrified by the display of speed and ruthlessness. Kyo then looked to him picking up the head of the messenger. "You. I have a counter offer for your leader." He then threw the head at the guardsman. "Take this to him and tell him that before this is over I will show him and your armies that even Gods can Die." The guard nodded still shaken up by the intimidation by the warrior. "Go.And if you are smart you will never come here again."
The rider soon disappeared from sight as he rode to deliver the message. The warrior stood upon the hillock. Awaiting his enemy. The end to this Envinco would be the turning point. With any luck after disposing the leader the others would scatter. Still in the end Kyo kept the promise in his heart until he saw her again he would not back down. Perhaps then he could sum up a way to tell her things he had been meaning to tell her. That would have to wait until she returned and set thing in Camelot right. Meanwhile back upon the ship which the invading leader, Envinco resided, the message had reached his ears. Enraged by the defiance by this one man he called upon the remaining forces to launch an all out assault upon the hillock. Stating he would make him kneel before taking everything from him.Â
