maybe it's bc i have a fundamentally different attitude (nosy, neurotic, wants to know everything before starting) but i just cannot fathom writing a fic and then saying in the a/n "i have never engaged with the source material i am new to the fandom please be nice i'm still learning the characters" like. why. i don't mean to be the fun police you can write whatever you want ever, but why would you want to write a fic for a fandom where you barely know who the characters even are?
