Help me with a fic?
How do hearing aids work? Like what does stuff sound like through them? Is it weird hearing things if you're born Deaf? And just.... how do they work?
Are cochlear implants a better quality than other hearing aids?
Can you play sports with hearing aids on, or would they have to be removed to avoid getting broken? Or do they have to stay on to be able to play the sport?
And do cleft pallets hurt? If they're not operated on, how much of an impact do they have on someone's daily life?
4 weeks till I get my second to last surgery ever and I’m so fucking excited. Most people wouldn’t be excited but most people haven’t had a surgery every year of their life since 6 months old.
Project for Awesome vid for Smile Train.
Super cool organization. Hits closer to home for me since I have a brother who was born with a cleft lip. We were lucky enough to be financially stable and live in a society with easy access to medical procedures such as this
Gavin is here!
Our baby boy is home!
Gavin has been home for two nights now. He's eating and sleeping really well, although I can't say the same for his mommy! She's been really strong this week and I'm so proud of her.
Gavin's cleft lip makes feeding him a little more challenging than a typical baby, but he's really getting the hang of it. We were able to get a really good idea of what to expect with his cleft lip and pallet while Lindsay was pregnant, and so far things haven't been too difficult. The most difficult things when it comes to feeding him is keeping him awake long enough to eat!
He will have plastic surgery in 3 months to repair his lip and nose, and then another surgery at 8 months to repair his pallet. Until then he'll have what Lindsay calls a "fancy face". I like that :)
We've seen some really great "before and after" photos of babies who have had the surgery. We're super encouraged by the confidence of Gavin's surgical team. He might have a minor scar on his lip when he grows up, but everyone knows that chicks dig scars.
He's gangly like daddy and has adorable blonde hair like his mommy. He sleeps allllll day like his mommy and he gets grumps once in a while for no reason like his daddy.
Both of our boys have pretty remarkable stories already. We wouldn't want it any other way!

I AM SO PISSED OFF.
MY FRIEND, WHO I'VE KNOWN SINCE I WAS FOUR, HAS A CLEFT LIP AND A CLEFT PALLET.
SHE'S UNDERGONE GOD KNOWS HOW MANY OPERATIONS SINCE SHE WAS 6 WEEKS OLD.
We had our year photo the other day.
Do you want to know what this girl from my year said?
"Why is she in the picture, she'll ruin it."
"If she was my child she would've had plastic surgery by now"
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW ANGRY THIS MAKES ME.
NO. FUCKING. IDEA.
She's an actual bitch, it made me SICK to hear that.
My friend is actually so self conscious, to the point she cries about the way she looks, and this girl has been in the same year as her for 5 years, and yet she still hasn't accepted her.
She disgusts me. She actually disgusts me.
I went to the head of year about it and she said the same thing.
I can't believe she said something like that, my friend is so beautiful, and she had the nerve to say something that awful about her.
You have no idea.
I've watched this video several times over the past few months. This little boy has autism, a cleft pallet, GHD and two amazing parents.
GLEE!
I am a HUGE Gleek! I love Glee and everything it stands for. This is a shirt I wore to the Glee 3D concert primer. I came up with the idea and my friend did the outlining. Basically I was born with a cleft lip and it is my biggest insecurity. I was bullied and teased growing up, and yeah it hurt, but growing up and getting older I am enduring it and soon I will be Mckinley High's next Glee Club Member! I will be auditioning for Glee Project so keep an eye out for me ;D
