i could go on for a few days about how great clay ruby’s seasonal mixtapes are. redolent of long, substantial thinking and feeling. taking an individual song out of them is sort of pointless, a little like dragging the fur from a deeply piled bed by a fireside in the winter and expecting it to hold all that fundamental homelikeness by itself. if they have a flaw, it is in being too good, unleavened by anything gauche or outre or silly. ofc one cannot ask that the artist communing with profound beauty also tell jokes.
