Slow days are always important, especially after something like Pompeii. Donna here had to still be really optimistic about the universe, since her big crisis comes in Planet of the Ood.

It is so weird to me the lengths people will go to to try and claim that the Doctor wasn't in love with Rose. It wasn't even subtext, it was the actual text. They are the loves of each others lives. You can still ship whatever you want to ship. So, just accept it and move on.

Yeah, I don’t get it. There are so many lines that tell you what they were to each other, and so many confirmations from everyone involved in the show that things that might be open to interpretation were meant to show that they loved each other. So... how can anyone say they weren’t in love?

I am so glad Rose got a chance to talk to Donna.. not that I don't get where she's coming from, but the Doctor is making so much progress in not taking all the guilt and I hate to think he's going to go backwards.

Yeah. I understand Donna’s POV, and so does Rose since their personalities are very similar. But the fact is, you cannot mess with a fixed point, and there’s no reason to blame the Doctor for something he cannot change.

I love soulmate aus, but they’re often so... easy. “Oh look you have my mark we are meant to be!” I wanted to add some emotional tension to the story, and this really worked well.

I love your work, because I agree as I read that that IS exactly how the Doctor and Rose would handle a certain situation. Or Sherlock and John, or whoever. You are a beautiful writer. Awwww that sucks so bad. And yes, the expectation to smut is why I don't really write fic. I want to write long potentially angsty slow-burns, not smut. ;/

I’d rather write mostly fluffy one shots. With the occasional foray into deep angst.

Argh, tumblr ate my comment. First, we hear you. It is much easier to respond to the smut thing than the lies depression is telling you, which take more processing time to respond to, but the smut question is easy. Second, Claudia is right that you need to write for yourself, not your audience. If your followers don't like it, you hang in there and eventually the followers who do like it, the ones you deserve, will find you. third, even if you were writing FOR the audience, there are plenty of us who don't need, or in my case, even want, smut. I avoid it, personally, when possible. Your audience is not homogeneous. xoxo. Now take some breaths, hug Smokey, and enjoy your day <3

It would be so much easier if I could say this was because of things other people did. But this time, it’s really all me. I know there are people who like my stories, even ones who like that they’re smut free. But when the real problem is my own upset over being single, knowing those things doesn’t really help. 

Plus, I don’t like feeling excluded from a group, even when I’ve excluded myself. The smut writers are going to have fun with their bingo cards and have lots of fun, silly interactions with their readers, and I wish I could be a part of that.

Lots of *hugs* to you! FWIW, I love reading smut-free stories. I generally prefer them, actually, and if there is sex in a story, I like it few and far between, and preferably referred to rather than explicitly described. I know that's not 100% what is upsetting you, but please don't think your writing isn't enough for this reason. A lot of people appreciate it. I know I do. *hugs*

Don't write smut if you haven't the inclination to or if it's just outside your comfort zone (like me). They can read it elsewhere. Write what's in your heart.

The thing is, sometimes I think I’d like to. Sometimes, I think I’d be good at it. But I know it would not be healthy for me, emotionally, so I choose not to do it. 

And regarding the bit you added when you reblogged, at almost 40 and with zero romantic prospects, I think having kids at least is probably not in the cards. Even if I met someone today, I’d probably be close to 45 before we were ready to have kids, and that’s getting into higher risk territory. I have a family history that makes me high risk anyway, so... 

I’ve been grappling with that realisation for a few months and still haven’t fully dealt with how it makes me feel. Because I really wanted to have kids.

Nancy, I totally feel you on a lot of this. You're not alone. The holidays/Valentine's are the worst time of year for me because being single gets thrown in my face by family and friends. / You do such a wonderful job of creating emotional relationships between the characters that you don't really need the smut. I've read stories where it felt like they threw in a smutty scene because they felt like they *needed* it and it felt so...awkward and extra and unnecessary. Your work is filling enough.

Yes, this is it exactly. I was already feeling a little down because it’s my birthday, which such an obvious point to mark off “yet another year alone.” And then the smut conversation stirred it all up. 

But I wish I could write it, when I wanted to. Sometimes the story does need it, and sometimes it’s just fun to have a little PWP ficlet. And honestly, it would be fun to be a part of that crowd at times like this, when everyone is writing smut and talking about it. But I can’t do it.
