Tonight I traded Haley for a Golden Retriever.Ā
Itās not like it sounds lol.Ā
In Rally-O class we did a dog-swap so we could have a chance to see how our dogs worked with other people, and how it was to run other dogs. I got the, I think, 11 month old Golden? He was precious. And oh my gosh there is a benefit to having a larger dog isnāt there? His head is right at perfect treating/petting height! Also baby dogs are so fun and bouncy, and add on the fact that Goldens are always ecstatic to do whatever theyāre doing, and itās super fun. Anyway, I want a Golden Retriever. Or at least a puppy. lol.Ā
Haley worked really well for someone else, too! Surprised she wasnāt pulling too much, since sheās a puller, but she heeled nicely for them. Our instructor was likeĀ āsee, you guys trained your dogs so well that you can hand them off and they still do it!ā Nice to see. Also always nice to run other dogs. Kind of like window shopping! Itās likeĀ āoh, do I like the size of this dog? do I like the way this breed works?ā In agility I remember watching people get frustrated if they ran Haley, because sheās too fast and will bark and jump at them the whole time. But in Rally-O she behaves! As long as you have food. She whined the entire time I worked the Golden, whose called Gambit, but totally forgot about me when someone else came over with food I guess!
Oh, also me and Haley had two really good mock-trial runs of our own. We apparently would have Qd. So, we could probably trial in Rally and do well. Definitely going to register for CARO and start looking for trials.Ā
You might think that Rally isnāt as fun as agility or disc or something . . . But man, it is really fun! Doing all the little signs is fun! And heeling is sooooo satisfying okay. There is something very nice about having a dog in a really engaged heel, happy and excited to work, because youāre not just walking, but youāre doing fun things.Ā

I am never more thankful for spellcheck than when I have a migraine.
Me, joking my way through an explanation of my chronic illnesses: haha yeah so that's fun
My professor: what the fuck?
My professor: You're going to a doctor, right?
Me: yeah? But my gp can't do anything but pain management, and I can't see the specialist til October.
My professor: what the fuck?!?
My sunroof gave me a sunburn, I really want masala fries even though I really shouldn't eat them, and I have a little bit of a headache I am terrified (!) will turn into another migraine. But! I made two v important phone calls, and I listened to new music on my drive.
