Jenna had long discarded her phone back into her beach bag and decided that it was time for another dip in the pool. As much as she wanted to keep texting Jake, she wanted him to come find her even more. She would win this game. It didn’t matter if it took hours. She could be patient. She was an expert at that.
The hours passed by rather slowly, depending on what she was preoccupied with at the moment. She went back and forth betwen sunbathing and swimming and reading her book.
It was a strange feeling to be in a serious relationship. Even if it had only been a month now since she and Jake had gone steady, it was still a new feeling. To be completely and wholly in love. She couldn’t say if she loved him and would spend the rest of her life with him just yet, but he was certainly a few steps above the relationships she had had up until now. For once, she was with a man that genuinely wanted to treat her with dignity and respect. She wanted to better herself because of him.
That was complicated, though. As was everything when it came to Jennifer.
“I came here to scope out the area,” the blonde spoke in a low, threatening voice. Her arms were crossed as she hung against the wall next to the locker rooms. A woman, who was several inches taller, stood with her. Her stance was just as defensive as Jenna’s was. It was only natural with how hostile the conversation was. “I’m not here to do anything else. If we want to make a business deal with you in the future, we will contact your headquarters.” From the corner of her eye, Jenna noticed that someone was approaching them. She stood up quickly as soon as she recognized that it was Jake, immediately smiling. She waved to him. In a voice even lower than before, she whispered in a sweet voice, “This is neutral territory, so fuck off.”
Yet the woman did not stir even as she recognized the change in Jenna’s attitude. She simply turned to allow Jake into their bubble, waiting patiently as the couple exchanged hello’s.
“Mandy, this is Martin. Martin, Mandy.” Jenna smiled at the both of them, all hostility seemingly lost. Even Mandy pretended to be friendlier than she really was.
