The video ends and the silence of the cold Siberian bunker quickly grows unsettling. Steve watches tony warily as he stares at the static screen. He expects rage. An outburst, maybe even pain but not this. Never this.

Tony laughs.

It’s cold, bitter and deeply unsettling.

“Wow I came all this way and all you ended up doing is show me what I already know.”

“Really, as much as you and your hydra buddy’s like to think you’ve got me all figured out, you really don’t. It’s quite cute honestly.” Steve wants to say something but his voice is gone. His lips move but no sound comes out.

“I mean really, did you seriously expect me, a What was I like 16? A 16 year old emotionally charged genius kid to believe that dad’s drunk ass crashed the car on accident?

Did you really not expect me to accept it with out running through every scrap and trace of evidence at least a dozen times? Did you really not think that I wouldn’t spend the next month and a half staring at all the photos and reports trying over and over to make the math right?”

His voice is dangerously low and disrupted by that haunting giggle.

“You really expected me to buy the fact that the hand shaped bruises on mommy’s neck were from the cars impact? That dear ol dad’s face was smashed in so violently from the steering wheel? Oh and the bullet holes in the car tires where just a coincidence? As well as the conviently missing traffic footage? I mean given the tragectory and speed of the car at the time of the crash and the resulting force of impact everything should add up? Right?”

Tony jerks his arms out wildly turning on his heel and strutting towards the now dead winter soldiers. With out thinking Steve pulls the shield closer to his chest. Bucky pulls him back a step.

“I have to admit hydra hid the details well but you, just like them have failed to account for one very important variable.” Tonys turned to face zemo in his strange chamber thing. He looks unsettled and Steve knows it’s probably because his plan wasn’t really working out.

Probably.

“It’s the same mistake that everyone seems to make in the end so don’t beat yourself up too much.”

“What was the variable?” Steve spooks at Bucky’s sudden question. Tony turns to him smiling coyly. “What did hydra forget?”steve feels he doesn’t really want to know the answer.

“They forgot, Sargent, daddy dearests greatest weapon.” The face plate snaps on from the suit within a second and Steve realizes that this whole time he’s been in aware of the high pitched wine from the suit charging up. Tony slowest almost gracefully lifts his arms and tilts his head to the side. Without his enhanced hearing Steve would have heard Tonys last word over the sound of the suit firing directly at zemos chamber. The barrier cracks, then shatters.
