Hello Xia. I was wondering what you think about "down with cis" and about people who identify with their gender from birth. Do you think there are cisgender people who are nice? And treat people who are transgender right? I would be really intrested to know. Have a good night.
Yo. That’s a risquĂ© topic right here. haha I’m down for it though, so here’s my view on it. Keep in mind that this is my personal opinion that I don’t intend to impose on anyone. Read if you’re interested. You’re also welcome to comment on it, discuss it with me or even critique me if you desire to.Â
First of all, I firmly believe that idiocy, empathy, understanding and ignorance or a lack thereof are traits that can be found in everyone, regardless of gender or ethnicity. I don’t think that ignorance and idiocy can only be found in cis folks and I know plenty of people who show great kindness and empathy belonging to all possibly identity groups. I have to say I’m not a fan of grouping people and stereotyping them in general. I think that is pointless and I rather judge individuals. As such I don’t support the whole “down with cis” movement. I very much lack interest in such kind of things. I also don’t enjoy spending my time spreading hate against groups of people. It seems a waste of energy. I don’t see a purpose in this. What exactly do the supporters preaching hate against cis people expect to gain from it? I’d actually like to hear that.Â
On the other hand though I do understand exceptionally well where the whole cis-hate origins from. It’s quite the fact that especially heteronormative people tend to be very close-minded and disapproving and not to mention disrespectful up to rude to people not belonging to their kind, so to speak. That is a fact. There’s plenty of numbers proving just how cruel cis people can be. The high suicide rate and number of murders of transgender people speaks for itself. I know how hard it is. I feel it deep in my bones sometimes. Sometimes through second-hand experience of loved ones, sometimes through my own. So to those cis folks that go around saying “but there’s also understanding, good cis people!”. Yes, you are absolutely right. There are people who show genuine interest and care, who support and give strength where it’s much needed.Â
However, and you cannot deny this fact, you will never know how it is. You will never know how it feels. You will never be able to understand no matter how much you know about it. You will never feel the pain nor know the hardship nor the fear nor will you ever know how it feels to finally feel safe and comfortable in your body. You will never know how it feels to hate yourself, to hate the way you look and the way others perceive you when you’re unable to change that on your own. Nor will you ever be able to appreciate your body, the home of your soul, the home you have always taken for granted, as much as somebody who has finally and after much hardship arrived at its doorstep. You will never know what all that feels like.Â
So you can say whatever you want. You will never comprehend trans people. You will never comprehend the struggle or get on the same level of empathy no matter how hard you try. And while your intentions might be good, you sometimes say incredibly cruel things. Without even noticing you do so so terribly much damage. Because you will never truly understand. And that’s just how it is and that’s why I understand where this cis-hate origins from and why, to some extent, it’s justified.Â
It’s not a question of good intention. It’s a question of incurable ignorance based on this one seemingly insignificant but yet crucial difference.Â
