Hey guys! Wondering about the rise in posts explaining how sick people are of Cis-het hating posts? Isn't this a strange phenomenon? Wow! Cisphobia is a real thing now? It's like the reverse of what goes on in real life!
Well, here's the thing! If we look at society at large, yeah, cisphobia and heterophobia is miniscule next to, say, trans-hate or homophobia. But looking at Tumblr as separate from real life and you will find that the percentage of blogs that supports cis-phobia is stunningly high.
That's not to say that tumblr doesn't suffer from the opposite problems: Homophobia, transphobia, people who don't believe in non-binary genders. These issues are here and as vile as ever. But when examples are shown, they are mostly shown in the form of Anon hate.
Because we mostly see homophobia on tumblr as from anons we get this mental image of a bunch of faceless and pathetic pests. Vile and harmful in large numbers, but not something you can really direct your hate too since they're faceless, and the response to anon hate is usually to encourage the person being hated against.
But because Cis-phobia is more likely to be portrayed with a name as opposed to anon-hate (or at least that's how its portrayed when we talk about it) people are more likely to both defend the person getting hate and attack the hater because there is a clear enemy to hate against.
The reaction against cisphobia by tumblr is because cisphobia "has a face." We portray homophobia as angry anons, but we portray cisphobia as a bunch of accounts with real names publicly preaching cisphobia without hiding behind Anon.
