Startled, and immediately annoyed at that being his first reaction, Jax glances down at the small hand on his shoulder, surprise etched across his features even as his gaze trails along the arm to the tiny jester attached to it, where she sits next to him on the couch.

It’s odd not looking down at her, he thinks. She’s just so small.

Then, as if it had always been there, his mask easy grin slips back into place. He waves a hand at her with a soft scoff, and settles his arms into place behind his head— notably not shrugging the hand off. Yet.
