@voidfire there are. so many things that i want to yell about regarding your statement. lets break it down, shall we?Ā
Nobody is killed for not having sex or only having sex when they have an emotional connection, buddy.Ā
letās start with this. i did not ever say that asexuals have been prejudiced against, to the point of death. so yes! in this instance, valid point. asexuals havenāt been murdered before. that is true. thatās due to the fact that almost nobody knows about the existence of asexuality.Ā
Just because someone called you a plant on the internet doesn't mean you're oppressed.Ā
gotta stop you there, though. letās look up the definition of oppression.Ā
āThe systemic and pervasive nature of social inequality woven throughout social institutions as well as embedded within individual consciousness. Oppression fuses institutional and systemic discrimination, personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that saturate most aspects of life in our society.ā (taken from suffolk.edu)Ā
asexuals have, in the social justice realm, been systematically told that they are not valid as a member of the lgbtqa+ community becauseĀ ānot wanting to have sex isnāt a sexuality.ā asexuals are also told by their peers that theyāreĀ ābroken,ā orĀ ādeformed,ā or, in the case of this one kid at my camp,Ā āa fucking mistake of nature.ā weāve been told that weāre notĀ ālgbt enough,ā and been told to goĀ ātake our fake sexuality somewhere else.ā thereās a long standing precedence of disbelief and general dismissal towards asexuals in general. hell, my own mother doesnāt believe me sometimes, and sheās one of the most liberal people i know. and guess what all this this ties into - the continuous expectation and societal belief that in order to have a fulfilling relationship, you gotta do the horizontal tango. so yeah. iād say thatās oppression. (and if thatās still not enough, dm me, and we can chat some more in regards to oppression of groups.)Ā
Oh, and for the record: LGBT PEOPLE CAN STILL FETISHIZE GROUPS! Even if you were, that doesn't make you 'immune' or give you a free pass to fetishize people, what the fuck? People like you who try to claim they're lgbt and just use it as an excuse to fetishize are why the a is for ally
god of course, lgbtqa+ people can still fetishize other groups in the spectrum. i didnāt say they couldnāt. but generally, thereās the consensus that hey. we should be better than that because if it wasnāt for this, we could be living through literal hell. some people are living in hell on earth because theyāre not lucky enough to have accepting and understanding people around them. i tried to imply that, but clearly, it didnāt come through clear enough. even if youāre lgbtqa+, if you fetishize a group - be it ethnic, sexuality or otherwise, goddamn right you donāt get a free pass. and, furthermore, i have never once fetishized any goddamn group. because guess what - once you live through the terrible experience of having a guy grab your ass, pull you close, and askĀ āhey china doll, you doinā anyone right now - iām looking for a cute orient for tonight,ā - you donāt want to put anyone else through that experience. and furthermore, itās lgbtqa+ because there are so many sexualities, genders and romantic alignments (not the homestuck kind.) that are a part of the lgbtqa+ movement, that yeah. the a can stand for ally, but it can also stand for asexual and aromantic and agender. and iām gonna say that it stands for asexual, because the lgbtqa+ movement is a movement that was made to advocate for people who donāt fit on the boy-girl, heterosexuality scale, and allies are on that scale, and ace people are not.Ā
