Mara and Cilghal had an exchange in Lightsabers are Always Loaded that suggested Cilghal, with her healing skills, might be able to help Mara deal with her trauma. Although she seems unaffected in canon, I figure her adventure with the Death Star in Champions of the Force would be rough on her, so she decides to give it a try. Clearly she has some work to do...

[Sometime during Star by Star, probably]

"I'm more of a tactician," Alema said, her voice as blank as her emotions. "Numa was the strategist."

Jaina blinked, momentarily struck by how much Alema and Numa had to have been through in the year since Duro for her friend to be saying things like that.

The same stuff the rest of them had been through, she figured. She just had missed Alema's particular experience with it.

“You have to want to heal,“ Jaina realized out loud.

“Precisely,” Cilghal confirmed. “All the healing in the galaxy is useless if you cannot accept it.”

[Voices of the Force, after the clone Caedus reveal]

"No, I need to know this one," Octa Ramis demanded.

"Yeah?" Jacen met her eyes cautiously.

"Where did he get the name Caedus?"

That one was easy. "It means 'slaughter' in Kuati."

After a second, Ahsoka's deadpan voice cut through the collective air of disappointment.

"I guess for a Sith name, it's relatively subtle."

"That wasn't me," Jacen said, "but it was close."

Tense silence filled the room.

"Some things were different. Caedus thought that morality should be dictated by legality. I disagree. But it was close enough to me that it fooled all of you for five years."

"You have a point," Luke admitted apologetically. "I'm sorry."

Jacen seemed taken aback by the apology. "It's not your fault, Uncle Luke."

<em>It's not your fault, either.</em> His certainly, through their twin bond, made Jaina release a weight she hadn't realized she was holding.

"I'm sick of being miserable," Jaina said, some of her old fire coming into her voice. "So you know what? Yeah. I do want to heal. Even if it's just out of spite."

"Spite is as good a reason as any," Leia said with a smile.

Their hope resonated through the Force, and Jaina let herself believe that maybe it might eventually be okay.

Tahiri fixed Jaina with a wicked grin. "Malinza."

Jaina groaned. "Why did I ever tell you that story?"

"I wish we'd gotten to know you better before then," Numa said. "You would have known Brakiss was wrong."

Zekk shrugged awkwardly.

LUKE: Hey. It wasn't your fault.

ALEMA: Really?

LUKE: Yes. As far as I can tell, you did everything you could to save those people.

ALEMA: We could've just turned ourselves over.

LUKE: You really think that would have worked?

ALEMA: ...No.

Luke’s Jedi Council has to be one of the worst I have ever seen. This guys don’t do jackshit. Mace Windu at least had the fucking balls to arrest Palpatine. The fuck are this guys doing.
