Prompt: Puddles

Roger’s foot goes right into the middle of a puddle. With a curse, Roger laments his wet shoe and soaked sock. Next to him, Chuck laughs.

“Yeah, yeah,” Roger pushes him. “You’d be putting up even more of a fuss.”

“Really?”

Before Roger can retort, Chuck picks him up. One arm is wrapped around Roger’s shoulders, the other tucked under his knees.

Day light Chuck knows his is the silly kid brother role - always there to provoke a laugh, willing to put a temporary crease in his dignity in exchange for lifting his crew mates' spirits or dissolving a knot of tension. Alongside his unflinching persistence and smooth oar pulling, optimism and warmth are his contributions to the team. But it's different when his jokes land in one particular way, coaxing a smile from a glum, contained Roger. Then it is his turn to bask in the sun, soft beams warming his skin. Roger's slow grin ignites his chest, kindling something compelling and unknown.

You know how China has been in labor with Russia’s twins pretty much the entire time this blog has been up? Well, I’ve just received word that he’s gone into premature labor! Russia is taking him to the hospital right now. Stay tuned for updates.

Update: they have just arrived at the hospital. China is in a room and in a lot of pain.

The only light in the room comes from the still roaring fire. Logs shift, flames spark, and the embers glow orange and red.

Two figures lay in front of the warmth, a blanket covering them. Heavy pants have turned to soft, held breaths. They don’t dare look away from each other, they fight off sleep that tugs at the edges.

Gerita: Partly cloudy, hating America. Expect Germany to stay up all night stressing about the state of the world while Italy attempt to calm him down.

Spamano: Clear, hating America. Packing for the upcoming vacation has already begun.

Sufin: Clear, worried about EU. 100% chance of Finland crying over his fear of America.

Aushun: Clear, worried about future. Expect tension due to split European opinions over US sanctions on Russia.

Leitpol: Cloudy, no political news. Expect much cuddling in bed.

Denor: Clear with a chance of rain later, no political news. Expect them to be up all night doing what Mommy calls “adult things”. I don’t know what those are, but I trust that you do.

Rochu: Clear, strengthening political ties. Expect major strain to be placed on China as he attempts to make America and Russia get along.
