Augmentation Assignment - Research Sketches and Preliminary DesignÂ
“I was born human, but it was an accident of fate. … Humanity can change itself but hopefully it will be an individual choice. Those who want to stay human can and those who want to evolve into something much more powerful with greater capabilities can. There is no way I want to stay a mere human.”
The idea of extending, augmenting, and/or restricting sensory information is fascinating. We can reach beyond our own physical limitations in order to achieve our needs, while we can even do so with the imitations of exaggerations based on our senses. Â
From observation, I saw how hoodies, sun glasses, and gloves in combination hid a person, while I also found a fascination with how sun glasses even enabled expressive freedom for the wearer. With reflective surfaces and masks in mind, I found myself remembering Loreena McKennitt’s Marrakesh Night Market with the following lyrics: “Would you like my mask?
would you like my mirror? ....You can look at yourself
you can look at each other
or you can look at the face of your god”
An augmentation for hiding oneself, while also extending eyesight, is in order.
