After earning a degree in graphic design at @mecaart Chris Saunders moved to Los Angeles. Pursuing a career in motion graphics he worked with leading agencies and brands and also taught at @ArtCenterEDU, but a near-death experience in 2009 led him to make some changes. Saunders says he found himself “compelled to create images that were pouring from his subconscious” exploring themes of connectedness, abstraction, and psychedelic experience. He now uses art and design “to promote inspiration, productive rebellion, intentional evolution, and self awareness.” 34° north is a gym in Santa Monica dedicated to the whole human—body, mind, and community and in 2017 they found an ideal partner in Saunders. With assistance from @chromasphere_art “3 Guardians” were born at Lincoln Blvd and Hill St.  @chrissaundersart  @34_north

Likuid Art Tiger's Eye Mandala by Chris Saunders

After training at the Maine College of Art, Saunders headed west to Venice Beach to pursue a career in animation and motion graphics. After a near-death experience however, in 2009, he says his career trajectory changed and he felt compelled to explore “themes of connectedness, abstraction, and psychedelic experience.” Since that watershed moment the images pouring from his subconscious “promote inspiration, productive rebellion, intentional evolution, and self awareness.” At 22nd and Pico in Santa Monica this commission by a local karate studio was Saunders first mural. He told 1xRun he was afraid of the project and close to pulling the plug on it when one night he had a “vision of this Tiger and it came through so strong with such fire that I knew I had to go forward with it.” The resulting piece was so successful that it evolved into a cleaned up vector illustration used for a popular set of prints, and was eventually followed up with other large cat mandala works.  @chrissaundersart  @1xrun  @scenesfromthesidewalk
