Bookland - Natale 2025
Buona vigilia a tutti.

Huge news for ballardian spinal catastrophists
im trying to get my monthly dose of theory in and im reading powers of horror and im honeslty in such awe of julia kristeva's writing style and of course the wonderful transaltion by leon s. roudiez, obviously i dont know french so technically i dont know if this is a good translation but just reading this text it feels very faithful to the style of the writer, especially the rhythm and cadence.
jg ballard has such an uncanny ability of capturing the strange feeling of peace when he writes his protags stumbling thru unraveling worlds (sometimes those worlds unravel because of them) and its so insane, im always thinking about that one part of the voices of time, said to a character thats actively falling out of time (or becoming a part of it, depending on how you look at it).
the atrocity exhibition has a very similar feel and so does the terminal beach. everything is unraveling, the psychosocial structures did not stand the test of time against the natural forces older than humanity and we get to see that specifically through a lens of a journey, in an interaction between an individual and the plane he (usually he) traverses.
its good :)

i know a lot of ppl think that crash is mostly about being horny for car crashes and it is that !!! it very much is that !!! but i think for jg ballard it is primarly a metaphor of ultimate break from reality -- in the moment of the crash everything stops, disappears and resumes somewhere else, including all of your psychological processes. this, coincidentally, can be compared to an orgasm as well. and now we're back to being horny for car crashes
(this isnt a quote from crash its author annotation from the atrocity exhibition)
A happy happy book launch! Some tips, too, and a recipe...
