DC Sports fans = DC Botchers
Interesting piece in the Post yesterday about DC sports fans. Pretty much sums up the bizarre transient vibe here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/washingtons-sports-identity-reflects-dc-regions-population-makeup-and-growth/2011/10/19/gIQAr1nz4L_story.html
Best quote was from Tim Russert's son, “In Buffalo, it’s the sport teams. . . . Whereas in D.C., yeah, we root for our teams, but we’re much more defined by the brainpower in our city, the politics, the gentrification, the think tanks, the programs. In a town that has so much opportunity, the sports kind of get marginalized.”
Ah yes, the "brainpower" meaning busted chicks that believe their changing the world at think tanks, and yuppies living in cookie cutter condos.
One shout out is to David Gregory, who usually shills for anyone with power, actually didn't become a DC fan after living her for such a long time.
Vapid Yuppies Staying in DC
The empty soulless corporate types are now staying in the city to raise their families. If there was any shot of DC having some cool people, this article may put the nail in that coffin.
"Hi, my wife and I are both GS-13 and we'd like to buy a cookie-cutter two bedroom condo, preferably near some fast-casual chain restaurants and a yoga studio."
"You poor disenfranchised black people, you get out! We have McClaren strollers and we're not gonna put up with your Newport smoking and go-go music!"

The Chipotlification of DC
I tried out "Sol Mexican Grill" food truck the other day. Decent burrito, not great, but not the worst I've ever had. What struck me the most interesting about the whole experience was that it was a complete rip off of Chipotle.
This is part of the reason why people laugh at the food culture in DC. This truck is an example of real mexicans making fake mexican food for white people. Burritos in Mexico are nothing like chipotle 1,200 calorie monstrosities. Only in DC would a food cart cater to people who don't have any interest in eating what is actually eaten in Mexico. C'mon, real mexican food is so much better than this junk, and healthier as well.
It's bad enough that half of the new condos being built in DC imitate the interior of a Chipotle, now we have food carts imitating Chipotle too!!
Yuppies Need to Feel Safe
Arlington has to be one of the weirdest places I've ever seen. It's a city designed by white yuppies, for white yuppies.
I do have an old friend who lives in Clarendon now so I thought we'd check out the "Arlington Scene". We ended up at Clarendon Ballroom which has a great roof deck.
We chatted up a couple girls and the one I was talking to seemed like your standard yup. "I work in logistics at Company X, we do consulting for the military." Great.
I then asked her where she lived and she said she lived in a building in Clarendon, because its "safer around here". At this point, I knew I had just come across an imfamous subset of the DC yuppie scene, the closet racist!
"That neighborhood is sketchy" in yuppiespeak usually translates to "Black people live there, and I don't want to live near them!"
"I really like my building because it has a doorman and security" translates to "Jesus Christ, my worst nightmare is a negro breaking into my building!"
It's always funny that the people who tend to live in areas that have virtually no poor or minority people are much more worried about "security and safety" than people who live in mixed areas.
