Now that I have somewhat of a grasp on japanese, I need to revisit chimpui sometime, too... that's another show that's a blatant doraemon-clone. I've read the manga since that was already translated, but I'm curious about the anime adaptation. It isn't as direct of a parallel to it like Kiteretsu is, I'd say... if kiteretsu is doraemon a little to the left, chimpui is doraemon a little higher on the z axis. In chimpui, the titular character is an alien who improves human child Eri's life by using magic, rather than gadgets/devices... it takes a much more fantasy approach in this kind of story, rather than sci-fi.
Also, bonus points for having a girl protagonist... however, the plot of it (as in, the reason chimpui is there to help Eri in the first place) is to convince her to marry an alien prince and become the planet's princess, which she isn't interested in. I don't care much for that plot, which I guess is why I haven't felt that motivated to pick the series again like these other ones. Still, it's fun for what it is with the doraemon-like story formula it has going on.
