Regarding what one anon said about Cherlowe being between two consenting adults it still doesn't excuse the fact Marlowe was hurting innocent people under the guise that they hurt Cherrie, when the most 'harmful' thing directed towards Cherrie was 'we are all trapped here, none of us are innocent'. And the fact that Cherrie condones this behavior makes it even worse. Cherrie is canonically someone that is suppose to love everyone and value their happiness. Marlowe is clearly not abiding by those wishes and thinks what he's doing to the others is right is... alarming to say the very least
It's not an "I can make him worse" or "Cherrie is a horror enthusiast" trope-whatever. And the fact that people try to make excuses for it is honestly sickening. Idk about you, but if my boyfriend strangled my friend in front of my face it's automatically over. And I would at least ask my friend if he was okay
People say sod made everything go downhill but I think Cherlowe was the turning point. At least phenzume dived into complex psychology of a toxic relationship, Cherlowe wasn't even interesting. It felt like a poor quality yandere trope you'd find on wattpad
.
