The people of Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim did as Rahab had done. They heard of the one true God and His mighty deeds (Joshua 9:24), feared for their lives, and sought favor. Now their actions were deceitful hence the sentence upon them to be hewers of wood and carriers of water.
