i think the fact that they don't really have like. gender is fun. ac does cause she was raised like a human girl in her childhood and just went oh okay :] but homeplanet culture just doesn't. there is a single set of reproductive organs nuanced only by whether or not they've had surgery [like lieb has]. a 1:1 binary gender analog for lieb would honestly be closest to "woman with hysterectomy"...? and you really only refer to people with i or you or that [adjective] or maybe that [name if your family was all fancy about it lol].
I think lieb's concept of masculinity comes from like. his early 100's? right when he became a 'real' adult. he'd already be off-planet by this point but at the start of his career. I think he was the sole alien in a largely human or closely adjacent type of crew doing space heists ^-^ a bunch of annoying dudes in their 30's with skills that were just hitting casinos n whatnot and lieb absorbed their energy like a sponge. by the time he's landing in MA he's been doing that for sixty smthn years... definitely outlived the whole crew by now. at least as far as he knows? it's not inaccurate to call him an old man but i also think he has that affectation because he had a bunch of old man sleazeball friends for fifty years...
