Character Showcase: Storm
So I wanted to do a character showcase thing. And since the whole idea began with the wind rider herself I figured I'd start with her.
Ororo Munroe was introduced into the x-men comic book series in 1975. When we first meet her she is resides in africa, and is worshipped as a goddess by tribes in the Serengeti.
As time goes on we learn that Ororo is descended from a long line of African witch-priestess that have white hair and blue eyes. Her mother was a princess and her father was a photo journalist. They fell in love and moved to harlem where Ororo is born.
The Family soon finds themselves in Egypt during the Suez Crisis. Tragedy strikes when a plane crashes into their home destroying it and burying Ororo under the rubble with the bodies of her parents. Because of this Ororo developed a severe case of Claustrophobia. Orphaned, young Ororo becomes a skilled thief on the streets of Cairo (trained by a master thief named Achmed el-Gibar). Eventually she wonders into the Serengeti, and thus her time as a goddess begins, only to end when Charles Xavier (who we later find she once pick pocketed as a child) comes to ask her to join the X-men.
Ororo has power over the weather. She can some terrible storms and calm them as well. In fact Storm will command the winds to assist her to fly. Her powers also tie in heavily with her emotions and so Ororo must be aware and in control of her emotional state.
Aside from that, Ororo is a very strong female character, and one of the first African American Female characters to have an integral role with in a fictional team. In fact she has, on many occasions and in many incarnations, been the leader of the X-Men, take Scotts place.
What I've has always liked about Storm is the strength of her character. She is kind, noble, and regal. She has integrity, and she knows who she is. She walks with her head held high, and stands tall and proud. She's brave, and doesn't falter when faced with great tasks. She's a fierce warrior. A diva in her own right, and she will protect those that she loves, and the things that she stands for with every thing in her and then some.
Who wouldn't want to be like that?
