I was really confused about Wes being either a snake lion as originally thought or a lion snake. In the new wip I'm working on he is less friendly cheerful loyal kid brother and more a rebel wanderer angry at his brother and family for "betraying" him. Which got me thinking, would a snake primary be able to leave his core people? And it seems a snake primary could if he felt betrayed by them.

I think it comes down to Wes desperately not wanting to be a snake. He has a role model in his older brother who is a community oriented principals badger primary and the idealistic roaring lion primary in Acacia. These are his closest people and he wants to he as fair and good as them.

He adapts a lion snake model. I'm not sure if this is before or after he leaves. The snake model probablycam came even before, and it's a useful model to steady his reckless lion secondary ways. Makes him calculating, use his great reading into people and he genuinely enjoys being playful and deceiving people for fun, even manipulating them for his own ends. But in crisis situation he would charge head on at a problem without thinking.

His lion primary model is not healthy. He adopts this one after he leaves, when he is angry at his snake primary and at the betrayal of being denied who he actually is by his loved ones. He uses it to justify his actions, to cut himself of ties and caring for others, to become more ruthless in a fanatical following of a new goal, of being himself and advocating for other mistreated Shifters until it blows over his head and he demands special treatment for them without just credit.

*Spoilers will be discussed later regarding Mint’s romance missions and will have a second warning before they start!

So. I finally caught Mint often enough to level his friendship some and triggered the peace in politics missions in which he asks for help with his relationship with gust. Which to me was funny because I’m already married to the guy yet the game is obvs coded the same regardless so I wandered around getting tips from his family and Albert.

The reason for the tension is what was really interesting to me though...pardon the crappy phone photo.

And then the next day

I noticed also that gust doesn’t go home for lunch and Mint is there now. Not sure if that’s because he paints in spring or what, but it was interesting.

Now I’ve stalked the hell out of gust in my quest for his love lol and he really rarely speaks of his father minus the boyfriend dialogue about being glad he let him pursue his dream over politics, so until this I never considered any kind of jealousy/feeling of neglect...until I recalled the mission Gale’s Worries, where Gale mentions he “hasn’t been much of a father” when asking for your help getting Gust strong materials.

The following day Gust will mention you being nosy because he knew it was you who helped his dad, but gives you like 40 relationship points for it. Clearly it meant something to him, whether it be the moment with his father being openly supportive or the player character bothering to help him out, or maybe a little of both.

But back to this mission and its aftermath

Realizing who the gift was from (book, bacon fish roll or umbrella) he assumes Mint just wants to get points with him in order to have a good rapport with Gale. Which made me wonder...is that part of why he’s so cold toward the player initially? Assuming this new builder wants in with the mayor and buttering up his family isn’t that crazy. Between unresolved grief over his mother, guilt in how he treated Ginger growing up and I assume the fear of losing her to this mystery illness and a strained relationship with his dad his closed off behavior makes more sense.

Especially considering how involved Gale gets if the player romances Mint and essentially sets you two up from the beginning with the Dinner with Friends mission and Mint Condition...and even the proposal. Whereas there’s no involvement whatsoever in your attempts to friend or woo his actual son...which would have been useful in the early stages where he basically tells you to fuck off every time you say hi lol.

It all works out in the end though and it’s nice to see Mint joining Gust and Albert for lunch at the round table and eating with the family at Gale’s home, and while I’m happy Mint now has this father figure he deserves, it also makes me somewhat sad that it’s almost like Mint is the son Gale wanted and Gust is the one he has, even though he obviously does care regarding that early mission.

I’ve been thinking a bit about what kind of personality Jughead might have out of the 16 personality types (check it out if you want to, its pretty cool: https://www.16personalities.com/ ).

I was going through the personalities, and I think I ultimately came to the conclusion that Jughead might in fact be an INTJ type (a.k.a., “The Architect”), which also so happens to be my own personality type. Now, that said, you are more than welcome to poke holes in my theory. I’m interested in hearing other people’s views on this subject. But if he were an INTJ, that would not only explain a few things about him, but it would make his connection with Betty that much deeper. So I’ll try to explain not only why I think this way, but also what could actually be happening in his head because of this personality type.

1. What is an INTJ personality and why might Jughead have it? 

An INTJ is an imaginative and strategic thinker, with a plan for everything. So, lets check that off first.. Imaginative, check, he writes stories. Strategic, check, he knows where to go with getting information for that story and how to get it. He also knows which step of the investigation he needs to do next at the end of every turn. Having a plan for everything, check, he was thrown into homelessness and his response to his father was, “I’ll figure it out dad.” After that, he still appeared to be doing fairly okay, despite everything. So, he hits all the checkmarks for the base of the personality. But it goes deeper than that. INTJ types are not good with social interactions. They view being overly emotional as a sign of poor self-governance, and prefer cold rationality. Shutting down with strangers, and only really opening up to people they feel close with. They also base their thoughts in logic. All of which Jughead has proven he does. 

First, Jughead is an outcast as school. Somehow he has managed to gain Betty and Archie’s loyalty and friendship, probably because they view his insight, honesty and intelligence refreshing and invaluable. He is blunt and cynically sarcastic, but also always hoping for the best. INTJs are a perfect contradiction of being both the bitterest of cynics and the most starry-eyed idealists simultaneously. Beyond that, since an “Architect” personality is based around logic, when something doesn’t make sense, such as Archie having an affair with Ms. Grundy, Jughead has to confront it and try to work through it. Despite the insecurities the INTJ feels, they radiate self-confidence and an aura of mystery. Think back to Pops cafe with Archie, Betty and Veronica. Remember when Betty asked Jughead and Archie to join them and Jughead had one of his rare moments of confident charisma. In that moment, even Veronica was impressed by him.

2. How does this affect Jughead’s relationship with Betty? 

Assuming that he is in fact an INTJ, “Architect” personality, I’m going to make some conclusions about Jughead that I think are true, so humor me. 

He internalizes a lot. The fact that he’s opened up so much with Betty would suggest that he feels very close with her. Since his personality is an introverted type, its much easier to see the points where he is subtly dealing with strong feelings for Betty. The subtle loss of composure and discomfort he shows when she reveals that she is going on a date with someone else, for example. Or when he hands her the paper with her family’s name on it to put on the murder board. He could barely take his eyes off of her. 

Jughead would be bad at dealing with emotions. He doesn’t trust them because they don’t make sense from a logical perspective, however, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel them. Feelings are a trait of the “Architect” personality that aren’t exercised very much, so when someone like Jughead does feel or love, it can be much deeper, much more intense than with many other personalities. Jughead’s personality type finds the best partners in people who are intelligent and intuitive. And open-communication and honesty are prized. In Jughead’s case, if Betty were to feel the same way, the chances that they would have a good relationship might be pretty high (assuming the writers don’t have an ulterior motive in store), considering Betty seems to fill most of those things. It’s also probably why Jughead is attracted to her, besides being a beautiful woman. And in Betty’s case, it would also suggest that she has some kind of “I & N” personality as well... perhaps leaning more towards an INFJ “Advocate” or an INFP “Mediator” personality.

Antigone is the sister of Polynices and Creon. The two brothers had agreed to share custody of the kingdom but Polynices refused to relinquish the throne when his turn was up. Creon banded together his own army and killed his brother for breaking their agreement. Creon made it law that no one would mourn or bury Polynices. Antigone saw this as something she could never agree with. Her religious belief that the word of God should be put above man was her driving force in mourning and burying her brother. As fate would have it, she was caught in the act. She accepted the consequences of breaking the law with no resistance to her punishment.

Antigone is an inspiration to character creation for me. Her character places so much power behind the strength of valuing human life. Crying is traditionally seen as weak. Antigone redefines mourning into a symbol of rebellion and inner strength.  She embodies standing up for what you believe in, even at the cost of breaking the law. She never doubts her decision.  Despite every single family member telling her she should not do it, Antigone stood up for her beliefs. Even in the face of death, she held head high. The strength of belief in her decision is what makes her fearless.

Antigone is relevant today because doubt plays a huge role in everyone’s lives. It’s refreshing to have a character that could hold such strong conviction. Antigone’s character brings up the age old question “Would you break a law if you saw it unjust?” This is a question that will always hold relevance, regardless of political climate.
