I got to say, as a really big Koby fan, I'm actually kinda surprised at people being, well... surprised and frustrated at him saying he "has to stop Luffy's dream of finding the one piece" because like. That's... exactly what I expected from him. Yeah. That's completely in character, considering his themes and and his trajectory. It's the exact line that I expected from him.
For me the whole appeal of Koby IS the fact that he's a very flawed, naive character who is pushing and pulling at the corruption of the system he's fooled himself into. He tries to go against it but can't help but be part of the vortex, the system is the system. I kinda love it when characters are flawed or get corrupted or worsen a bit. The idea of two good friends slowly becoming rivals and enemies, is much more appealing to me than pure wholesome friendly Koby. Seeing what the Marines were doing during the summit war and being broken by it was one of his best moments. I want to see Koby fumble and make wrong decisions! That's such a more interesting character!
He is turning into the Garp figure to Luffy's Roger. It is one of the most obvious parallels in the entire series. And I for one, cannot wait to see the emotional clash between them. Koby needs to learn the hard way, just like back in Marineford. If he's just a "uwu good cop trying his best!!!" then what's the appeal?

Oh this is absolutely the most gremlin behavior Saguru has ever displayed. He is smug and he likes to play with his food, but this delighted bright grin as he plays with Kaito/Shinichi - that's just Kaito behavior, quite frankly. Love that for him.
And then he just keeps Shinichi/Kaito over his shoulder the entire damn time. He wanted to demonstrate how easy it is to lift another person up. He. He could have put him down right after. Instead, he just... keeps deducing with Kaito's butt next to his face. What am I even supposed to do with this I feel like I fell asleep after Saguru was announced to be in this case and the entire case has been a feverdream. Unreal.
(Like, I get it, it's because he figured out it's really KID and he has our favorite thief "secure". But. C'mon.)
Context? What context?
I AM GNAWING AT THE BARS OF MY CAGE. SAGURU GO FIGURE IT ALL OUT.
Oh, you are. I am not buying it for a second that Saguru really believes the unnecessarily complicated, and entirely unproven, situation of Conan... talking to Shinichi on the phone and simultaneously relaying those words to Kaito. That's a mess. Nah.
I am completely convinced that Saguru figured out Shinichi's real identity this time. He has been suspicious of Conan from the first time they met and has paid such close attention to Conan, and paid him more respect than most others.
He did absolutely not walk away from this encounter thinking Conan played middle-man, my boy is too damn smart for that and this explanation is too damn dumb for him to buy it.
Here's the chapter cover to One Piece chapter 1122 πππ₯°π
Y'all know I have to post about my man, especially when I didn't see anyone else in the One Piece Smoker tag post this yet.
So some lore for this art: About 20 years ago, the mangaka of MHA, KΕhei Horikoshi (I had to Google this as idk MHA that well, please don't kill me) drew Smoker, he was (and I would assume still is) a big One Piece fan. As MHA is now ending, Oda decided to redraw the fanart that KΕhei Horikoshi had done, in honor of that.
people leaving disbelieving tags about the my recent chapter fanart lasjdhas gosho aoyama himself is more yaoipilled than all our imagination unfortunately

I swear it always comes back to this damn clown. Crocodile's response is so funny to me and Buggy's expression is so good but the scene as a whole. Vegapunk's transmission concludes here. He's left the world in a panic. Buggy though continues to make the best of opportunities through sheer charisma. Don't forget where we left off last time, this may be a tense relationship but he's somehow worked himself into solidifying the Emperor title. I get the vibe at least CrocHawk are fuming here because they're realizing they have to play ball with Buggy on some level because he's the one with the men's loyalty. That's an important note for this chapter, the power of charisma vs. Vegapunk muddying his own message.
Let that one sit a moment because it won't really play much in the rest of the chapter, but like we often say with Egghead it is an interesting scene to frame the rest with. While Vegapunk's message and the impact of it remind me so much of David Bowie's Five Years, the little lead-in line made another rock music reference worth paying attention to. "The Times They are A-Changin." We couldn't use it as the chapter title because that, in full English, was already one which was confirmed as a reference. 572. Whitebeard giving the final order. Our lead in to the death of Luffy's brother Ace.
We'll talk narrative structure in a minute. Because I want to keep smoking this Whitebeard pack while I have it open. "I failed to make him King." That line, the flashback, the sacrifice...I see why we have that callback. Emeth here ends up being a pretty cool combination of Whitebeard back then and Izo's sacrifice late in Wano on top of the obvious internal parallel with Kuma. Especially when you mix it with seeing Koby's reflections on early chapters this chapter really felt like it was hitting that deep DNA of the series.
And of course, that makes the title interesting this time. "The Time is at Hand." I feel like I'm supposed to be making that connection right now. And honestly? All I've talked about this whole time could work just fine if Luffy simply gets taunted after this like Ace does. For all the pomp and circumstance. All the big ideas of Grand Fleets and mystery interlopers, that could tie it off here too. Are we ready to "untie the knot?" Are these scattered contexts about to make sense and reweave time?
It's not like I can ignore the confluence here. The bulk of the Gorosei are banished. Nami's lament about Atlas & Edison imply Lilith is the Last (goo-, evi-...allied) Punk Standing. Er...laying. You know I just thought "Last Punk Standing" sounded cool okay? The broadcast is donezo. Robonosuke's done his thing. Even cinching up Caribou and the Blackbeard bits. All this happens as the ships come together and the gang is drifting away.
Just saying, feels like the broadcast did sorta serve as this third discrete segment where Egghead takes on a different tone. And now that's settled. We'll have this break and honestly? Next few chapters feel like a total wild card.
Sorry, but this was Shinichi's biggest act of stupidity....
He knows that Hakuba is there and yet he doesn't take any kind of care when wearing the tie and helping KID, it's so ridiculous that it's funny, but at the same time it's just depressing.
I hate how from the beginning of the story Shinichi doesn't take real care to hide his identity, I will always defend the thesis that it would be much better if he had actually faked his own death to everyone and lived like Conan without having to use a drug, which in addition to putting his life even more at risk because of the pain, he never uses it in really necessary cases but rather to see Ran.
It's ridiculous, Shinichi says that if anyone from the BO finds out that he's still alive, they can go after the people he loves BUT AT THE SAME TIME HE TAKES A DRUG PILL AND GOES AROUND SHOWING HIS FACE TO EVERYONE JUST TO BE WITH RAN AND ABANDON HER 10 MINUTES LATER. If only they had good development but NOT THAT! IT'S THE SAME THING FROM THE BEGINNING!! THIS ROMANCE DOESN'T EVOLVE, IT'S ALWAYS THE SAME THING. They can't even kiss... I just can't stand Shinichi's stupidity at random moments in the plot.
Asked me if Gosto really likes this couple or just continues because of the toxic fandom....
