I really wanted to make a Gijinka of this channel, since for years I was fascinated by its graphic design.

I made a sketch of the design, and felt in love with it. But I haven't done a complete drawing with it.

And I ended up making a drawing these recent days. I finished it in two days!

I originally wanted to draw RT-Lette, but I let my ITV interest go with him.

I had difficulties chosing which colors to choose with his hair, glasses, and his dress shirt.

But I hope he looks cool!

More Channelettes for the ITV Family.

TV-am and ITN

I can imagine TV-am, the franchise that led the beginning of ITV's breakfast television; waking up the other members of the ITV Family, as well as making really good breakfasts.

While ITN is the franchise dedicated to bring out the news to the channels. So I can imagine him being serious, like INTJ energy. But then again, I need to check more about ITV's history.

Weird imagination. I imagine TV-am talking to ITN while bringing him a nice cup of tea. And ITN checking the news while drinking that tea.

That's kinda cute.

CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)

Country: Canada

I looked at the CBC's logo and thought that I looked like a flower. Like a Rose or Poppy. So that's why I decided to give her a extensive skirt and petticoat.

I pictured her being nice, or at least trying to be nice, friendly and inclusive. To the point that other channels think that she needs to chill out on her nice-ness.

(Remember. I'm a Chilean and I don't have enough exposure to other countries' TV channels! Feel free to give me feedback!)

"The Channelette Project" or just "Channelettes" is a personal project, for the moment consisted of character designs based on Television Channels. The main purprose will be character designs, but in a future they can be used for stories about television history, and even miscellaneous stories..

The Main Character Design Bible will consist of:

Graphic Design: Logos, Idents, Animations, etc.

Location: National image and symbols

Time: The years or era when those channels were airing can also inspired future designs, like alternative clothing or appearance.

Programs and Personalities: There will be moments where certain programs that were produced for that channel, or certain people who are important to the channel; will influence on the appearance and design.

I am aware of the massive quantities of TV Channels that exists around the world, but I'll try to make the most important ones, As well as some lesser-known ones too. As well as to figure out how to address the fact that networks like USA's ABC, CBS, etc. have channels that are connected to a main network. That one will be addressed in the future, while UK's ITV Network has been addressed, due to the network having regional franchises like Yorkshire and Tyne Tees, as well as other franchises like ITN and TV-am.

Let's take a look to the World for the Channelettes, Shall We?

The Airwaves

The main plane that covers the Earth and where the Channelettes habit, like other waves like Radio Waves.

The Channelettes are composed of Waves, and those waves can be:

Analog: The original format of transmitting channels.

Digital: The new format of transmitting channels.

And they can be connected to the Earth (AKA their respective channels can transmit) via:

Wireless: From Terrestrial to Satellite

Cable

Internet: There are channels that only transmit via that format.

And the Channelettes can have their status:

Active: They're currently being transmitting and on duty.

Legacy: They're not longer being used, either due to the channel going defunct or they changed to the point that they're not exactly the same channel.

Legacy channels can still exist on the Airwaves, but they're unable to be upgraded nor updated. For example, if a legacy channel used to be a analog channel, they can't be upgraded to be a digital channel. They're pretty much stuck on time. The only way the can be leave their legacy status is to returning transmissions, although it happens rarely. An example of a former Legacy channel is Chile's Telenorte, which returned transmissions via Online, albeit in a experimental state.

The Channelettes can be varied from theme to theme. Like General, News, Entertainment, etc. And they can even have hybrid themes, having two or more themes. But if they tackled a lot, they are a General-themed Channelette.

There are some dangers on the Airwaves. Like the Rouge Signals, or Rosigs for short, which are signals made by unauthorized sources that can interfere and even hijack a Channelette. Hijacks can be represented as a possession, the hijacked Channelette starts to act as the Rosig commands it to do, like sending a message. Even some Rosigs can even be shaped as Channelettes, although it is rare. An example of a Rosig Channelette is Lucky 7.

Although, the main enemy is the time. Technology advances, human interests shifting all the time, and the support for the channels; can led to Channelettes to become legacy and stop being updated.

Especially during the current event being The Signal Migration. While in the Earth they're doing the shift towards Digital and the Analog Shutdown, the Channelettes have to be upgrading to become Digital and continue doing their duties. While those who are not yet being upgraded to Digital, their signals cut short and their presence on Earth becomes sharply lower.

In other moment I'll be showing my story ideas. But this project will be Character Designs first, possible branches like story later.
