Golemaale golemaale pirit koiro naa!
In this turbulent world, do not give in to love!
Piriti kaathaal-er aatha, laagle pawre chharbe na!
Love is like jackfruit-glue [the sticky juice], once it takes hold, it does not let one go!
Ek pirit-e Shib shawoshaan-baasi,
One such love sent Shiva to live in the cremation grounds,
[On account his grief over Sati's death]
Aarek pirit-e Gora holo Nawd-er Nimaai shonyaashi,
Another love [for Krishna] made Nadia's Gauranga-Nimai renounce the world, turning him a mendicant,
O re Geet-gobindo Pawddaboti, eraai kebol koyjona!
O Geet-Govinda['s writer Jayadeva] and his wife Padmavati, these are the select few [who tasted love and still lived happily].
Piriti-r reeti zaano na?! Korle pirit hawye biporeet,
Don't [you] know the rule of love?! You fall in love and then it all goes bad,
Pawre ghotbe jawntonna!
Later it will lead to pain!
O jaymon chite-gur-e pipre porle,
[Just] Like when an ant is stuck in molten jaggery,
Pipre lorti-sorti paarena!
[How] The ant cannot move even an inch [and dies]!
Golemaale golemaale pirit koiro naa!
In this turbulent world, do not give in to love!
Piritir jawg dumur-er phul,
The world of love is like the rare dumur flower [like hell freezing over],
Dumur-er phul jayno Alok-lawtaar mool,
A dumur flower, or is love the roots of the parasitic dodder plant,
Bhaab na jene korle pirit,
Without knowing the true rules, to fall in love still,
Jeeb-er pokhhe bhul.
That is a human folly.
O re ayk brahmon-er chhele,
O there was one brahmin's son,
O shey emni khitkele,
[He was] Bad-tempered by his very nature,
Pirit kore dhopa-r meye-r paa dhuye khele!
Falling in love, he washed the feet of a washerman's daughter and drank that water [simped, basically]!
[This is referring to Baru-Chandidas, one of the greatest poets of Bengali literature, who was a brahmin by birth, buddhist by faith, a devotee of Basuli-Vajreshwari, who married Rami, a muslim washerwoman]
Piriti-r jaati-r bichaar korle re bhaai,
To judge love by caste/religion, my brother,
Milbe naa chaand-er kawna!
You will be deprived of a piece of the moon itself!
Golemaale golemaale pirit koiro naa!
In this turbulent world, do not give in to love!
