Challenge 97: Subway Card Art: Unified Train Barely squeaked this one out in time-- it was way more of an undertaking than I realized, and I also procrastinated last week a little bit. Wrong challenge to do that on! haha :P Trying out a new style Iâve been playing with-- the goal is to eventually also use color with it, but I had to scrap that part because it wasnât looking right. Wild characters, jungle foliage and animals are probably not the craziest things seen in the New York metro, Iâd reckon. I may have bitten off more than I could chew with this one, but hopefully it would make for something fun to stare at for commuters!

Wanted to go with something a little more fun for this challenge, almost an Alice falling through the rabbit hole type of feel. I chose to incorporate the look of station entrances as the top structure of her dress. It then flows out from there into different subway lines serving as the rest of her gown. Elizabeth B.

Challenge 97: Subway Art Card
Hey Everyone,Â
For this challenge, I would like the theme to be MTA Subway Art Card. On my last trip to New York, I kept admiring and wanting to create one. I'm sure every illustrator does... So here is your chance!
The requirements are: 9 x 44 inch illustration on transit-related subjects and the places that can be discovered using the mass transit system.
Goal: to pitch the illustrations we work on to MTA Art and Design program. I might be dreaming here but it would be awesome if they selected the illustrations we make to put on subway trains etc.. That would be great exposure for everyone. But It can also be a fun assignment.

While the collected short stories One Thousand and One Nights (aka Arabian Nights) are just awesome (Aladdin! Sinbad!), I always loved the frame story that all the other tales are nested in:
A hyper-paranoid king systematically marries young women of his kingdom, then executes them the next morning so they have no chance to cheat on him. (???!) But everything changes when the clever ShahrzÄd steps in! Every night after marrying the king, she tells him incredible stories, always leaving off with cliffhangers. This way, her husband, eager for more story time the next night, continuously postpones her death and lets her live another day.
This goes on for a thousand nights, after which I guess the king realizes heâs got something special. Basically, the guy is messed up and ShahrzÄd is the coolest storyteller in the world.
