Dean can tell Ash is ashamed. He understands; he hates for anyone to see him after one of his nightmares; when his walls are down and heâs too vulnerable. But heâd never judge anyone for being haunted at night. Much as he sees his own dreams as a sign of weakness, he understands that they canât be controlled, and neither can a personâs reaction to them.
He doesnât know everything about Ashâs past, but he knows heâs been through bad things, the kind of things that stay with you. Most hunters have. But Ash is...different. Dean knows heâs seen more than an average hunter. Heâs entitled to a nightmare now and then. And someone to help him through it, if he wants.
âHey, itâs okay man. Just try to breathe.â He soothes. He starts to reach out and place a hand on Ashâs back, but stops. He doesnât know if he wants to be touched right now. He picks up on the stutter, but doesnât say anything. He knows what itâs like when youâve just woken up; everything is hard, especially talking. âYou donât have to apologize. Sounded like you were having one hell of a nightmare. I...I get them too, you know. All the time.â He ducks his head; itâs not something he admits easily. âDo you...want to talk about it?â
