thanks to @chainofclovers for the tag, these are fun!
What's your blog title from ?
My URL is from a Parks and Rec quote... "Looks like a job for Butch Count-sidy and the Sum-dance kid!" My username in many other places is/was a related Ben Wyatt accounting pun reference (calc-you-later) but when I made my ao3 account I wanted it to be unconnected to anything else. And then when I decided to return to tumblr for fandom reasons, it just made sense to use that same one here too.
2. What movie have you watched most recently? What did you think of it?
Grey Gardens. It was playing at my local theater and I had never seen it. but I knew its place in the pop culture world and documentary world and was curious. It was a strange, sad watch, like almost claustrophobic, and also I really could have used subtitles. But I'm glad I have the reference point now.
3. what are you looking forward to right now?
A lot of stuff! Plans with friends and family this weekend, things growing in my garden, a few days off work next week. June is one of those months that is always jam-packed.
4. if you could do anything at all today, what would it be?
Not be sitting at my desk working mainly. I think I'd like to be Up North, have a quiet morning with a book, then be out in nature all day hiking with a packed lunch, and then an evening of cooking something tasty with a favorite record playing, go watch the sunset on the beach, play a board game, stare at the stars before bed.
5. What's your drink of choice? (Coffee/tea order, alcohol of choice, pop, etc)
I am a tea drinker through and through. Love it hot or iced. Black, green, rooibos, herbal.... all good! Current at-home fave for in the morning is this specific Marzipan blend (black tea, almond pieces, cocoa pieces, peppercorns). And I'm a sucker for a fun flavor at a coffee shop, like a strawberry or lavender matcha. I also drink a lot of sparkling water. I don't really drink much alcohol these days, but I'm always a fan of tequila and mezcal-based cocktails. Love a Paloma. I like the occasional beer and cider too, but don't necessarily have a specific go-to, I just don't like super hoppy stuff.
6. What's your hair routine like? Anything special?
I have wavy/curly-ish hair so it goes like this: Detangle with what looks like a dog brush in the shower. Get out and immediately part my hair and work curl cream through it while it's still soaking wet. Plop in a microfiber wrap for a while while I do other stuff. Some gel while it's still damp if it's being particularly crazy or I want extra hold. Blow-dry with a diffuser or air-dry, depending on how much time and energy I have and if I need to be somewhere in the near future.
7. what's your favourite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven't done that you want to experience?
Love a train! And I enjoy a road trip if I'm not the one driving lol. I've never done an overnight train trip and would like to!
8. favourite month of the year and why?
It's a tie between June and September/October. I live in a college town and June is like the students are gone, the weather is nice and usually hasn't gotten too hot yet and everything is alive and blooming and it's just ideal. And then I love the late summer shift into fall, it's cooling off but still a good time to be outside. And I enjoy an excuse for a costume, so Halloween is my jam.
9. favourite time of day and why?
I think mid-morning and mid-to-late evening. Morning holds the promise of the rest of the day and mid-to-late evening is when fun stuff is usually happening.
10. do you play or follow any sports? & elaborate on that?
I played volleyball in middle school and tennis in high school. I still enjoy playing tennis and sometimes pickleball. I had a racquetball phase when I had access to a free court at a friend's apartment complex. It's been a long time now but I also played rec league sand volleyball and ultimate frisbee at one point. I used to follow professional tennis very closely but haven't in many years. I get really into the Olympics and still occasionally watch my college team if they're in a Big Game in basketball or football, but I'm really not a sports follower generally.
11. what kind of music is stuck in your head a lot lately?
The Octet movie news got me revisiting the OCR that I had loved in 2019/2020 and then I saw an amazing production of it in Chicago at the Raven Theatre a few weeks ago and various bits of that are just on constant repeat in my mind.
12. dishes or laundry?
Laundry! It has its own annoyances (specifically folding and putting everything away which I always drag my feet on), but it's preferred to doing dishes for sure.
13. what's something you learned recently?
Bigleaf lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus, native to the western US) spreads rapidly and hybridizes with wild blue lupine (Lupinus perennis, native to the eastern/midwestern US), which is Not Good because wild blue lupine is the only food source of the Karner Blue Butterfly, which is endangered. Realized the beautiful lupine in my yard is a Bigleaf and I'm trying to decide what to do about it.
14. if you could give a TED talk on anything, what would you talk about?
I wish I could think of some really fun/cool niche topic but it's probably like the care and keeping of rabbits. Maybe spring ephemerals.
15. What's a piece of advice you find yourself giving a lot?
Honestly, it's something along the lines of "just gotta do it." Applies to a variety of circumstances.
16. what's a piece of advice you would give to yourself five years ago?
Literally can't remember what I was up to in June 2021, but I would have encouraged myself to try medication for anxiety/ocd sooner than I did because it's made a world of difference.
17. do you believe in luck and superstition? Do you carry any lucky items or follow any lucky rules?
I don't really. I'm not a very woo-woo supernatural person by nature.
18. Are you musical? Play any instruments or sing? Would you ever perform for an audience?
If only! I did choir in middle school and had some abandoned attempts at acoustic guitar over the years. And given I'm usually too nervous to even do karaoke with friends, I don't think I'll be performing for an audience.
19. Write, type, or speak?
I'm confused at the difference between write and type (is this like by hand vs by keyboard?) but I guess type? I think I make a better first impression on the internet than in person lol.
20. what do you wish someone would ask you? Hmm, anything about a current/ongoing interest so I had a reason to yap... Octet, Hacks, Widow's Bay, Audrey x Siegfried, birding, gardening, etc.
