i relistened to the whole platinum edition twice and put exactly 19 hours of thought into this. i feel like i’ve astral projected into a different dimension and my past self and i merged and are now dwelling in one single turbulent corporeal form. the experience has forced me to recall what a raw emotional state i was in at the age of 13 and how i’ve had exactly one (1) crush in my life and how the last time i saw him 3 ish years ago he was a wearing a polo shirt and looked like he had recently purchased a lifetime membership to an elite country club. he looked like old money and new car. i was horrified.

favourite track: fearless maybe? irrational and excessively sentimental, it’s as worthy a title track as anything i’ve heard. 

or hey stephen. it’s light and fresh like a relatively decent b-grade pizza crust. and the mysterious character of stephen himself always intrigued me. who is he? where does he come from? “looks like an angel” is, biblically, quite an ambiguous and potentially terrifying description. does he have a usual number of eyes? what were her 50 reasons? the slightly forced laugh at 2:54? what did she do to all those beautiful girls. there’s reason to believe that she may have a severe and untreated compulsive disorder as well as an interest in witchcraft. there’s so much that may or may not be going on here.

least favourite track: you belong with me. back in the day it was a mcfreakin bop but now i see it for what it truly is (a fake! a cad! a perpetuator of internalized misogyny in teen girls everywhere), but its contributions to memeademia (meme academia) lend it a degree of respectability it would otherwise not have 

underrated track: hey stephen. and if we’re counting the extra platinum edition tracks, then untouchable is one of taylor’s best pre-1989 songs. the mellow, blue-toned beginning slowly rising up to a climax full of a subdued and hopeful kind of heartache was a big feel™ back in the day™. another track worth noting is jump then fall. i can certainly see why pre-depression and morbid disillusionment me loved that one.
