Playing through deltarune chapter 3 for the first time, did not realize that “game show host” was a type of character I’d feel indescribable hatred for. Mechanically I think the chapter is interesting, Tenna’s motivations are compelling, the sprite work and storytelling is incredible (the budget really did a lot for deltarune), it’s a very fun chapter so far! There’s just Something about Tenna that I despise.
I feel a similar way about Ash-Greninja, a Pokemon nobody cares about. The battle bond concept is fascinating and fits well with the direction they took with the XY anime(which I don’t think is a popular opinion), but I’ve always taken pride in sharing a least favorite pokemon with Gamefreak.
I think the reason I dislike them so much is because I care so much about the media they come from. I have very fond memories of watching XY with my sibling when I was smaller and staying over at my grandmother’s house, and I’m always so excited whenever my friends schedules line up enough to where we can meet up and voice over deltarune. They are crucial to the stories, and I wouldn’t want to take either character out of their respective media, or even change them in a way that would make me like them more.
Stories tend to be written in a way that makes you want to root for the protagonist and target frustration at an antagonist (do not get me started on that bonehead sans. i have a genocide run ready for whenever he does something Because He Will Do Something.), I just tend to end up with characters that aren’t exactly antagonistic to hate.
