Usopp takes it off before finishing Perona for good, and he doesn't pick it up again after the fight. He doesn't need it any more, and that's some good visual storytelling for his development as a character

This is a fakeout attack in order to ensnare Perona in a sticky trap, making it one of the, and perhaps only, time in the series a character has purposefully called out the wrong attack name in order to trick their opponent

And this fits quite well with the overall themes of One Piece. A person's spirit can be suppressed and a body killed, but not even the most powerful oppression can completely destroy someone's will. In Ryuma's case, his will involves hunting down and killing "beasts" like Zoro so it doesn't affect the fight at all, but I appreciate it nonetheless.
