Jerza will always have a special place in my heart, even though I feel mostly indifferent for its progression now. 

I’m a sucker for “I’m using the name you gave me” tropes, and this was one of the first few I’ve ever encountered, weaved so tenderly between utterly heartwrenching panels of her finally breaking down. 

And it all leads up to the most memorable Erza scene in the show, at least for me. Often I’d come back to the anime just for this episode, because combined with the reveal of Caitshelter, Mystogan and Wendy, this entire episode is Fairy Tail’s highest point to me, for how boundless, yet exceedingly powerless, love can truly be. 

This page is breathtaking. 

Not just because it’s the long-awaited scene of our staple ‘strongest character’ finally fully breaking down on her own, mourning her own weaknesses-- but simply because of how genuinely beautiful it is. 

The shading, the composition, the one bitter line of longing for something she cannot have, even in a world where the power of love overcomes all. 

The anime takes it to a whole new level, with the gentle scarlet sunset, the voice acting, and the music.
