cgear asked: "DEMON?" It was unclear whether he sounded offended or scared- maybe a mix of both? "I AIN'T NO DEMON!!! And ehhh, I ain't no scaredy-meowth but demons ain't real, right?" Yeah, despite what he said he sounded pretty scared.
[Nanashi had seen and encountered just about everything; sure, he was only fifteen, but he'd been studying demons for years now. That, combined with his current predicament as an undead demon-hunter, meant he should be able to identify ANYTHING he came across...so why didn't he recognize this goofy-looking cat?]
[Of course he assumed the cat was another demon- it had every other indicator, including the ability to talk. He figured that this little guy might be an asset, given that he'd never seen it before...though he'd been unpleasantly surprised by that sort of assumption before. Maybe his dad was right; "assumptions make an ass out of you and me."]
[After all, the cat-like demon didn't seem to understand what it was, let alone that demons had infested the city. Maybe it wasn't a demon...? Nanashi had heard of cats before, but he'd never seen one. He'd been under the assumption that they were all extinct. Did cats talk...?]
โ If you're not a demon, then what are you? โ [Nanashi kneeled to meet the cat's level, studying its mannerisms; no, it couldn't be a regular cat. To his knowledge, they didn't stand on their hindlegs...and he was fairly certain that cats didn't have coins on their heads, unless Lucky Cat statues were anatomically correct.] โ And have you been living under a rock for the last 25 years? This place is crawling with demons, like, 24/7. โ [...Maybe someone had kept it as a pet in the underground district?? A really SHELTERED pet, but still...that wasn't unheard of.]
