headcanon; it's not really a secret that Hilbert doesn't particularly like Interpol work. He wasn't quite as miserable when he was allowed to be out in the field, but ever since he's been "promoted" to a desk jockey, it's just miserable. There are, unfortunately, two reasons why he can't quit, and I'll let you be the judge of which is more fucked up: The first is that Interpol won't allow him to leave. He joined at just the right time to be the justification for his division's founding. The Legendary Phenomenon division is about monitoring legendaries, activities and crimes surrounding them, and - most importantly - people with connections to them. He and Hilda were not exactly the first kids aged 8 to 18 to get tangled up with shit involving legendaries, and they finally decided it was high time to start monitoring that sort of thing and intervening if need be. Reshiram and Zekrom are pretty high on the potential danger scale. He knows he is never going to get out of Interpol's sight, and all that entails. The second reason is that he is dead fucking set on killing Ghetsis. He joined Interpol because he wanted to bring him to justice in, you know, the boring legal way. And then he realized very quickly that not only was that very difficult, but it was also very, VERY dangerous! So when he woke up from his ice nap he decided actually, next time, I'm not going to fucking hesitate. And if he does it while working for Interpol, he knows he'll be able to get away with it. (He just... still has to stay with Interpol after that.)

headcanon; Slightly more in-depth on the injuries she got when she was attacked by Ghetsis’ hydregion. Short version: Hilda carries on the proud Idealist Idiot tradition of surviving exceedingly inexplicable shit.
First of all - the Deino line has ridiculous jaw strength. Even careful trainers have been known to suffer broken fingers when a newborn Deino is teething for the first time. Unova actually has laws surrounding catching and training Deino, especially wild-born ones - more than a few inexperienced trainers have tried and wound up in the hospital. Basically, there’s a reason Hilda will never touch the line for the rest of her natural life.
That all being said, Hydregion packed a lot of damage - Hilda suffered both a broken collarbone and shoulderblade from the attack, as well as, you know, getting the muscles in her shoulder torn up pretty fucking badly, to the point of no longer having full range of motion, even after undergoing physical therapy - she can’t raise her arm all the way, the limit being right around where she can hold it out horizontally, and holding her arm out directly in front of her, while possible, is very uncomfortable; she also can’t stretch her arm across her body.
If that all wasn’t enough, she also had a (luckily moderate) concussion from when the hydregion dropped her. Of course, by that point, she’d pretty much all but checked out. All things considered, it was probably the most fortunate turn of events as, if Hydregion hadn’t let go, she’d most likely be dead; hydregion in the wild are known to shake prey until their neck breaks from whiplash, and this case was no exception - either that, or Hydregion probably would’ve taken her arm off entirely, which is risky for its own reasons.
headcanon; hilbert's post-b2w2 injuries. firstly, let's just put this on a headcanon so it's super duper clear: Hilbert was investigating Team Plasma going into b2w2 and, while infiltrating one of their bases (presumably where they were keeping Kyurem), was caught. He was deliberately kept alive as leverage to keep Reshiram from attempting to fight back. He was, however, literally & without exaggeration, fully cryogenically frozen. Why risk him causing trouble when you can literally put the guy on ice? (his connection to Reshiram is probably what actually kept him alive rather than any particular technology Plasma had but, like, don't tell Colress it would probably hurt his pride.) Unfortunately, there wasn't really a way to, uh, safely un-freeze him, which is where most of the problems came in. Hilbert's entire body is heavily scarred due to extensive skin grafts - he had a lot of dead skin tissue from the ice and frostbite. Most of his limbs suffered some form of muscular tissue & nervous damage. The worst effects are evident in his hands, which he now has very limited dexterity & feeling in.
