Nothing seems to get U.S. corporations' dander up like a threat to the pay and perks of their chief executives.

Minimum Wage?
As the debate grows stronger, while McDonalds and other fast food employees are beginning to strike, some are considering the concept of making minimum wage higher. The workers there are pulling for $15. I am fairly liberal and have a hard time making that connection. Here I am, fresh out of college with $20,000+ in debt and I am working in a law firm. Doing substantial work, that makes me think and solve problems through the complex legal field. I am making $13 an hour. Now, I think this is a fair wage. I am just beginning and learning the field and definitely have hopes of pay advances throughout my career. So, it is hard for me to justify paying someone who works at a fast food restaurant $15 an hour for doing something that is not difficult. Now I do agree that a pay raise to $10 an hour would be sufficient and would help a lot of people out.
As I was explaining this thought to my boyfriend - I had a revelation. One of those revelations that makes me proud that I came up with this kind of idea. I first thought it would be important to see just how much the CEO of McDonalds makes. I knew it would be a substantial amount, but when I saw it - I realized that THIS is exactly the issue with this country. Income disparity and greed. The CEO of McDonalds, Jim Skinner, made an astonishing $8.75 MILLION DOLLARS LAST YEAR.
Now that plenty of studies have come out saying that raising the minimum wage wouldn't be that detrimental to our society, some even say they would help. Regardless, lets make the minimum wages higher. Not $15 high, but lets just say up to $10 dollars nationally.
It goes without noting that the CEO of McDonalds is living quite comfortably. In fact the pay gap between him and his employees is substantial. So, lets raise the minimum wage a tad, but lets hold McDonalds more accountable for the shit that they feed us. I do not eat there, but so many of my fellow Americans do. He could easily take a pay hit of $2,000,000 to work on upgrading facilities of production and actually MAKING MORE OF THEM. To cut out the middle of distribution more and focus on using quality ingredients. I mean, that doesn't sound terrible, right?
I know this will probably be impossible, but just a thought. As Americans we need to be more adamant about not putting shit food in our body. Lets start holding these companies accountable for better treatment of employees and their food. If not, we must simply boycott them until they meet our demands. That's the beauty of democracy.
