Dating and relationships in the digital age
Amid growing debates about the impact of smartphones and social media on romantic relationships, a Pew Research Center survey conducted in October 2019 finds that many Americans encounter some tech-related struggles with their significant others.
For instance, among partnered adults in the U.S. â that is, those who are married, cohabiting or in a committed relationship, 51% say their partner is often or sometimes distracted by their cellphone while they are trying to have a conversation with them, and four-in-ten say they are at least sometimes bothered by the amount of time their partner spends on their mobile device.
From distractions to jealousy, here is a look at how Americans navigate cellphones and social media in their romantic relationships.

Americansâ Views on Mobile Etiquette
ICYMI: Our latest report âAmericansâ Views on Mobile Etiquetteâ was released last night, and we found that Americans have conflicting beliefs on civility in the digital age. While 89% of cellphone owners say they used their phone during the most recent social gathering they attended, 82% of adults say that when people use their phones in these settings it frequently or occasionally hurts the conversation. Some additional findings from our report include:
- 92% of U.S. adults now have a cellphone of some kind, and 90% of those cell owners say that their phone is frequently with them. - Some 31% of cell owners say they never turn their phone off, and 45% say they rarely turn it off. This includes 82% of smartphone owners who rarely or never turn their phone off. - 62% of Americans say it is generally not OK to use a cellphone at a restaurant; 38% say it is OK. - 77% of Americans say itâs generally OK to use a cellphone while walking down the street.
hahahaha this is great
I used up all my data for this month on my phone. Can't you credit me back my usage?
"I'm sorry that this has happen to you. "
Because obviously this isn't your fault for being a dumbass and using all your data when you probably have wifi at your house.
"However since we can't get back used data, how about we up your data usage for this month? "
It's not like we send you warning messages once you reach both 65% and 90% of your data usage. Obviously you are so damn special that you deserve so much more then every other person on the goddamn planet. A monologue of me while I'm at work. Please remember that on the other side of the phone whenever you talk to customer service we are people as well. We have to uphold certain standards just like everyone else.
