#celestial squares

i've got quite a bit to go still, here you can see my progress vs what i've done

if you think woah bis! that's a lot of ends you still gotta weave in! you don't know the half of it. i've woven in a lot of ends already! it's just that every. single. square. produces 8 ends! EIGHT. aaaand there's 30 to 38 squares in this project so that's 240-304 ends before even talking about trims and fastenings

i'm sacrificing so much for cool colours

the star one is free on youtube by AlyssiaCreates, if you, like me, aren't too fond of video tutorials, the written pattern is shown on screen so you can just pause it :)

the moon square, and sun square (not pictured) are paid, but for a VERY reasonable price, i paid less than 5 euros in canadian dollars. you can get them here!

for anyone who doesn't yet know what i'm making: this is the plan! i should maybe make a new sketch that's prettier for showing folks. hm.

i'm using this fancy joining method that has you join the squares as you crochet them. which is a little scary as it's a PAIN to undo if i make any mistakes. luckily i'm not going for a repeating pattern with the motifs

does make the space between the squares basically zero which is wanted

i decided i wanted to be cool and join the squares to make this in a like, Proper way. i am using tutorials by cypresstextiles, who appears to have invented this 'PLT' join.

problem is. she only had a video tutorial for a continuous square joining method with a dc stitch. the way these squares are shaking out, i don't want to have a massive amount of space between the squares. but the method was also really a struggle. so, i followed the video tutorial first. made 9 squares of various colours and made this gay little little blanket

however, i cannot use the tutorial meant for blankets entirely for this vest thing. on account of having a neck!

so. back to crocheting tiny granny squares i went.

made this stack (far from enough) but then i got started. i'm now past several hurdles, like drawing out the path, and making the concave (i think) corner.
