The blue goldstone whorl on the new spindle is GORGEOUS (and is entirely why I bought it). It’s interesting experimenting at how differently it handles. It lacks the hook my wooden one has, and its bottom weighted instead of top weighted.

Second thing i've ever done with it! (the first was an attempt at a cat... we do not speak of it... :P )

I was reluctant to practice as i don't have much wool, but then I tried felting fiber fill and it works! It's not the most pleasant stuff to the touch, but it's cheap and makes a decent core as far as my inexperienced butt can tell :)

crafters often refer to this collection as a "stash" or a "hoard."

it's normal to have, but sometimes comes with a certain awkwardness.

the problem is that it takes a very long time to make things from textiles - and it is extremely quick, fun and easy to get more materials.

Presents, impulse purchases, leftovers from other projects, things you bought FULLY intending to make something that you changed your mind about...

Another problem is that you genuinely DO have a plan for the materials! your intentions and desires are THERE!

and admitting that it isn't going to happen - or that your mind has changed, or you're no longer able to do them - can be really painful!

it's incredibly hard to say: "we are not the people who can do these things. we are not the people who WILL do these things."

but sometimes you need to.

it's a natural part of life. it might feel painful to let go of things that you really want to use, but won't. But clearing them out - and the attached guilt and shame - will make room for a lot more things in your life. Room for things you'll use. Room for the projects you'll do.

Room and space - not for hanging on to the shades of the ambitions and intentions and people you aren't - not being held for lives you don't have - but room and space for who you are today, and who you'll be tomorrow, and for the things you'll do.

Room and space to grow.

Update to my last post: Look who has a new cat toy belt!

Excuse the first pic, i didn't want to change pants to ones with belt loops so it's over my waist instead. It's not as excessively long as expected which is a nice bonus. I'm very pleased with it! The tension i think is pretty even & i like how i did the pattern.

First loom weave!

friggen. 50cm short on blue thread so had to wait until we could buy some more.

Friggen. Forgot to pull the weft through. Thankfully this was a forward-only pattern, so it wasn't awful to go back and fix, but definitely annoying.

Pleased with how it turned out! Both the pattern & the tension.

1.3m long! (about 4'). Longer than i needed for the belt, i'm not that big, but hey. This was the max length i could get with forward-only on the cards.

Did occur to me afterward thatit would've been possible to start it in a similar way to how i'm ending it. Hey, it's all learning!
