Celestial Signals

This au is based off the sandbox/survival mode in the winter survival game The Long Dark.

Sun and Moon

Eclipse and Y/N

You (Y/N) crash land on The Great Bear Island, you find a town that is unfortunately abandoned. Finding an old radio tower you set out to fix it. It was thankfully an easy enough fix, some wires, some fuses and a car battery to power it. You then finally connect to a signal with your emergency radio.

Sun was fixing up his plane when a random SOS signal came through, he hoped to direct the person to the local coast guard or aid then however he could... Until you tell him the name of the town you're in... Milton Town???? The Milton town? You didn't read it wrong? are you sure? Oh boy... You're in trouble. No one goes to the great bear island any more, not even the military... not since... Everything...

Seeing as it was his old home maybe he can assist you, guide you through surviving there... For as long as he can. His plane isn't flight worthy but if it was well... flying there is a death wish but maybe just maybe you'll make it out alive...? he can only hope.

One night during an aurora, the electrics go on the fritz you lose contact with Sun but... The Radio on the table of the place you took shelter in for the night buzzes to life, there's a voice!? A person named Moon offers you the opportunity to trade? He lives on a boat off the shore? His boat is too small to get past the rough sea to the mainland but he has some good loot and really needs some supplies from the island as he can't go there himself. You could do with some of the things he's offering and he doesn't ask too much. So you make the deal to trade with him.

By day you talk with Sun, By night with Moon and they tell you stories of their older brother Eclipse and how he's been missing for almost a year now. Sun thinks he's still out there on the island, Moon suspects the worst. You decide to figure out what might have happened, not only to Eclipse but the island itself.

Chapter 1: The Crash.

Auroras

In game Auroras are crazy, they make all the tech thats usually dead suddenly active. Something about them makes the frozen hydrodam work or something but it's even weirder then that cuz even torches (flashlights) and handheld devices suddenly work too, and even crazier the wild life get a crazy boost during the Aurora.

I'm bypassing this by saying that the radio our survivor/reader has is newer tech but also a satellite radio and if that wasn't enough it wasn't there during the collaps (a mysterious phenomenon in game thats eluded to often that I assume is why the Auroras are weird and also the fact the island is stuck in a permanent winter but idk) and as an extra bonus it hasn't been exposed enough to the Auroras and won't work during them and I want it too work for the story so it will >_<

Robots

What about the robots tho? How are Sun and Moon functioning? Well... they kind of don't...

So Sun isn't even on The Great Bear Island, but when he was it was damaging his programing big style. When the first signs of trouble started Eclipse actually sent Sun away to the main land, the night he was flying out a major Aurora stuck and destroyed his flight programme he only just managed to get out, he was using a floatplane and just about managed to land it on the coast of the mainland without too much damage. (Also they sent him at night because a group was putting on the pressure for ppl to stay and were at a point they probably would have tried to shoot Suns plane down ^^;)

Moon being as stubborn as he is decided to stay but assured Sun that he'd be following him by boat soon if it got much worse.... he did not.

Eclipse was sure he could fix everything.

As for Moon working despite the Auroras well I have a few ideas... one his programing is totally messed up, his memory is rubbish at this point and he's basically going crazy. As for actually functioning I have an idea about the three having Combustion Generators built into them (an idea I've been playing with for a while to explain versions of the boiz who eat and what a better time to use it then for boiz built in for the wilderness where electricity isn't always ver reliable) so they eat something and it is then burnt up into energy, high calorie low moisture foods work best, also just straight up lamp oil (or even gas/petrol) works in a pinch (not so tasty tho) they should avoid water and things like soup tho, they don't burn so well ^^;

Well one he's built for cold resistance, he's lived his whole life on the snowy island and was purpose built to withstand such temperatures. (we know the island is snowy all year round because despite being abandoned for years and years the fishing huts haven't sunk into the lakes) Plus he was quickly buried in snow which actually insulated him somewhat.

And a little know fact about these robots is they actually do have an emergency battery, so despite the fact he ran out of fuel for his generator his reserves where still full, now if they had wiped his system completely like they where supposed to he would have reset and his code would have died, waiting for a reboot or upload but because they messed it up he survived.

Even with all that his system took a while to heat back up, first coming back really slowly, So it's really handy Eclipse always keeps a flask of lantern oil tucked away for emergencies.

So I've been digging into the lore a bit more... (now the lore is still a bit patchy since half the story isn't out yet)

But I found out the Auroras are more of a new thing in game (narratively they've been in game since forever) and therefore wouldn't be a reason for Sun to have left the island but both the Glimmer fog and the collaps would have been!

So the Glimmer fog is a man made disaster, a kind of electric charged fog that makes people sick and electronics freak out. (Apparently part of a science experiment to study how the weather works or something about predicting disasters) I think this is what broke Suns pilot programme, he was flying over the mountains when the machine went crazy and blew up into this Glimmer Fog as they call it. As for him leaving I think just the collaps would have done that. A mix of financial and civil unrest, were the Forest Talkers (an activist group) were fighting against industrialising and harvesting the island of its resources as well as an economic crash (oh and a bunch of earthquakes scaring tourists away.) Caused the whole Island to fall into disarray and many left only making the problem worse.

Now I have a few ideas for Eclipse, I think he might have been a scientist working on some of those experiments but quit due to learing more about them and disagreeing with their practices and actually turned and started working with the Forest Talkers but ultimately disagreed with their ways aswell once they went more extreme, and took a few like minded members into his own small group where they started prepping for disaster (that Eclipse having been part of the science experiments going on knew might be more likely then most thought.) Then the whole story of him going missing happens.
