Graphic Design, besides being a job that pays my food and bills, it is also my ultimate escape and way of expression. Like music is too. 2021 was a year of mental breakdowns and serious life changes that honestly I should have made long time ago but well, you know how it goes. Shit happens and sometimes we don't realize it or maybe we force ourselves to ignore. But in the end, my well-being and whatever I need from my life are things more important and that's how it has to be. Thanks to all of the bands and all the people I worked with during this strange year as 2021 was. You may have not known but you gave me a lot of strength and motivation to go on. After taking a little break from social media to dive into a couple of projects, I'm happy to come back and share a sneak peak of one of the illustrations I'm working on. It is a beautiful project that involves music. These days I’ve been thinking a lot about how music has been a constant in my life; My father used to teach music and my mom was a singer for many years, so every day there was music in my house, particularly on weekends, where mornings used to start a musical marathon with Chopin, Erik Satie or something by Stravinsky, then jazz, it didn't matter if it started with Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Mingus or Coltrane because everyone would have their turn; Sarah Vaughan and Ella would delight us with their voices at lunchtime, later Syd Barret, Janis Joplin, and Robert Fripp would arrive and if the night dragged on, Silvestre Revueltas and Carlos Chavez would give a big closing. Every weekend was different, and there was always something new to my ears. Sometimes Queen or Tina Turner sang for my mom; There was always some funk coming in, a bit of Ragtime, Danzón and there were times that even my brother and I would share some hip hop or a new RHCP’s track. I guess I didn’t study music because I was never that disciplined and because this reality was not enough for me, so the natural thing for this naive mind was to create other realities through drawing and painting, but I think my decision has been so wise, that after all these years, even from a graphic point of view I have the opportunity to share my own vision in music projects and meet wonderful musicians who leave their souls in their work.
