It was hard to describe what happened after the words left his lips. It was like the world stopped, but at the same time continued on. Edward sat up abruptly, finding himself breathing fast, but couldnât place why. Heâd sit there for a few seconds, blinking around at his surroundings.Â
Hadnât he just been in... hmm. The dingy hotel felt alien to him for a fleeting moment and then it passed, and he finally rose from his chair. Something drew him to the hotel door and he went there, opening it slowly, cautiously. Gotham City lay beyond, and even from here he could hear the screams and chaos. It never stopped, that noise, not even during the daylight hours, the curse of being this close to the Jokerâs territory.Â
Edward frowned, looking across the dingy skyline, and feeling somewhat grateful to be on Cobblepotâs side of things. Sure, the living expenses were drastically higher, but so was your rate of survival.Â
He finally stepped outside, fueled by an unknown desire to explore, explore the Gotham City that had fallen to those that had exploited her the best, and had never recovered.
